Introduction and Definition
With advancements in media and technology, one’s digital identity and footprint are
equally essential for the establishment of one’s credibility across virtual platforms. A nursing
ePortfolio, can be defined as an online presentation of one’s personal, professional and academic
accomplishments, with special emphasis on nursing practice (Smith, 2018).
Importance and Reasons
The importance of a nursing ePortfolio, lies in its abilities to present an individual
positively and credibly across virtual platforms, paving thy way for an optimistic presentation
across health professionals, academic institutions, organizational recruiters and additional
personnel associated with professional practice improvement (Collins & O'Brien, 2018). The
following are the reasons why which a nursing ePortfolio must be developed (Anderson et al.,
2017):
1. An ePortfolio aids in professional development since it provides a platform for nurses to
reflect on their acquired skills and shortcomings based on experiences.
2. The nursing ePortfolio, due to clear outlining of short and long terms goals, aids graduate
nurses in the determination of their career potential and possibilities.
3. A nursing ePortfolio assists nurses to tract, monitor and evaluate their academic and
professional progress till date.
4. Development of a nursing ePortfolio teaches nurses skills on optimum development of
online employment applications.

Purpose/Aim
The purpose of developing a nursing ePortfolio, is to guide oneself on current academic
and professional development, existing strengths and limitations and potential for future
improvement (Nielsen, Pedersen & Helms, 2015). Hence, the aim for preparing an ePortfolio are
as follows:
1. To monitor and evaluate one’s academic and professional progress till date.
2. To assess one’s existing strengths and limitations.
3. To improve one’s skills of online application development.
4. To present oneself in a positive light towards potential recruiters, health professionals and
academic institutions.
ePortfolio Platform
The ePortfolio will be created using online platforms like ePortfolio templates provided
by Google documents, Google Classroom and also by the Australian College of Nursing.
Materials/Artefacts
The following will be obtained and prepared for ePortfolio creation:
1. Resume and Cover letter
2. All certificates and documents pertaining to academic achievement and professional
experiences within and beyond Australia
3. Documents pertaining to all seminars attended throughout career and academics
4. A personal development plan with mission statement and outlines of personal goals,
strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
