INTRODUCTIONThere are various problems or diseases that are suffered by an individual. As a personage, risk of degrading quality of life increases. Frederic Arum is a 78 years old person who livesall alone. He had quite an active life but due to old age he is facing lots of issues such as jointpains, stiffness, memory issues etc. He was advised by his GP to start some physical exercises,resistance training, lose some weight and socialise with others in order to live a healthy life, buthe refused to do physical exercise due to fear of an injury. This literature review will focus onimportance of physical activity, resistance training in old age.LITERATURE REVIEWAs per the view of Vasiliadis & Belanger, (2018) socio-economic status of an individualdoes not affect an individual's health in later stages of their lives but physical activity does affecthealth of an individual. Vasiliadis & Belanger further says that it is quite important for olderpeople to maintain and increase their physical activity for healthy living. In order to preventolder people from chronic diseases, it is important to promote healthy living within themselves.According to the article, physical activities helps an individual to reduce the risk ofcardiovascular diseases, dementia or memory loss problem, cancer and various other diseases.For older people it is important for them to do some physical activity as it will help them toincrease their quality of life, improve their mental health and general health. There are fewguidelines promoted by government for promotion and improvement of healthy living in olderpeople. As per these guidelines every individual should do at least 150 minutes of intense aerobicphysical activity per week. These physical activities can be done with moderate intensity or canbe done with high or vigorous intensity, depending upon the age group of people doing exercise.According to the research article, adults from age group 60 to 79 years are less physically activeas compared to younger people. Only 12 percent people meet the set guidelines of physicalactivity. Researcher also says that as per the data collected by them it has been observed thatmale adults are much more active as compared to females. Researcher also says that thedifference or changes within health of older people is mainly due to change within physicalactivity. Individuals with more leisure time and physical activity are less likely to fall ill ascompared with individuals with less leisure time and physical activity. As per the results,researcher says that physical activity or resistance training has a positive effect on individualsand has helped elderly people to bring improvement within their health.
