Abstract
The term paper presented entails a report on the continuous professional development in nursing
leadership to nursing students. The purpose of the report is ensure efficient application of
learning and teaching knowledge and reflective practice that students need to apply in their
continuing professional development in leadership, learning and teaching environment .
The report entails goals and plans and the summary of the learning outcomes based on the
identified learning and teaching principles applied in the continuing professional development
progress by the nursing students. For successful learning and teaching by the nursing students in
their continuing professional development, various learning and teaching principles must be
applied in order to ensure hundred percent on the progress (Camp, Hernandez & Dechman,
2017).

Continuing professional development
Continuing professional development can be defined as the lifelong process of learning,
teaching and continuing personal development. It’s the means in which one can enhance and
improve skills and knowledge in order to complement and improve the current career
progression (Cervero, Artino Jr, Daley & Durning, 2017).
Personal plan and goals set by an individual in continuing professional development in the
work place environment that is in health care provision requires one to critically evaluates what
types of skills and behaviors do one need to have in professional development, how to measures
success as these elements acts as the motivating or driving force in the continuing professional
development progress (Chappell, 2016).
Continuing professional development plans which are considered essential for successful
professional development includes planning the continuing activities, execution and recording of
the continuing professional development activities, recording the outcome and reflection on the
experience. The mentioned plans are widely discussed in the context below (Coventry, Maslin
Prothero & Smith, 2015).

Planning on the continuing professional development activities
Planning the activities one is expected to perform in order to develop or improve their
professional skills and knowledge thus making one more valuable in the job market due to the
advanced professional skills and knowledge. In planning such activities, the following strategic
plans should be embraced so as to improve professional skills. They include studying for
professional qualification, job shadowing and mentorship and coaching programs as discussed in
the context below (Doherty & Jarvis, 2016).
Studying for professional qualification. Continuing professional development requires an
individual to further their studies based on their respective areas of specialization so as to get an
additional knowledge and skills in leadership and in carrying out their assigned duties within the
health care facilities in delivering services to the patients. Through professional studies plan, one
will be able to acquire new skills and leadership trends thus improving his knowledge based on
the specific field of study (Engelbrecht & Ankiewicz, 2016).
During the study session for continuing professional development, one will get the
opportunity to interact with the qualified professors from different fields of study hence will be
able to share some of his professional skills and experience and also acquire some of the skills
and knowledge in leadership from the professors who will be coaching them on the professional
development study in order to be more competent and skilled in their area of specialization.
Studying for professional qualifications will make one more valuable in the job markets hence
will be needed by most of the employers due to the attained distinct professional qualifications
(Grant, 2017).
