Abstract
Background: Australia is still experiencing inequalities in the healthcare
and the major deprived population are the aboriginals and Torres Strait
Islanders.
Aim: The aim of this paper is to critically analyse the issue associated to
health-inequalities present in the Australian healthcare system
Design: Systematic review of literature (qualitative)
Method: The search of the literary article from two databases CINAHL and
PubMed by the use of keywords search and papers published within the
last 10 years were included in the study
Results: There is significant level of health inequalities in Australia. These
health inequalities make the indigenous population vulnerable to develop
psychological complications, diabetes, cancer and poor oral health. Poor
socio-economic determinants of health are the reason behind health-
equalities. Training of nursing professionals in cultural competencies will
help to improve the overall scenario.
Conclusion: Thus it can be stated that indigenous population residing in
Australia are the victims of health-related inequality under the healthcare
system.

Introduction
The healthcare setup and the health status of Australia have
experienced marked improvements during the entire stage of the 20th
century. However, in spite of these improvements, the health condition of
Australia at the beginning and in the later stages of the 21st century is
characterised by significant level of health inequalities. The health
inequalities are mainly prevalent between the indigenous and non-
indigenous population. The main reasons behind increased rate o health-
inequalities are poor socio-economic levels, discrepancies in household
income, lack of proper education and unhealthy lifestyle habits,
homelessness and lack of proper sanitization (Godding, 2014). This report
mainly attempts to access the different aspects of the health inequalities
in Australia. In order to do this, the report will conduct a systematic review
of the research articles that are published online in the esteemed journals
during the last 10 years.
Objective
The main objective of this report is to critically analyse inequality in
Australian healthcare
Methods
The main method that will be used in this study is systematic
review. Oh (2016) stated that conduction of the systematic review helps in
the generation of the evidence-based practice guidelines in nursing. In

this study, the conduction of the systematic review help to get a detailed
overview of the current condition of Australia healthcare system.
