Response to Question1:
There are a set of nursing guidelines that has to be followed in a daily nursing practice
in a healthcare framework and the best practice guidelines which comes in the form of
evidence based practice. EBP or evidence based practice outlines the daily roles and practice
of each healthcare professional working in an organization and there are codes of conduct to
be followed by the nursing professionals in a daily day to day, so as to reduce complications
with patient care and patient’s service satisfaction (Richardson & Whatmore, 2015). While
medication prescription errors is a common form of erroneous practice made by the doctors,
medication administration errors (Nanji et al., 2016) is huge drawback to best practices,
where nursing is concerned. While nursing education and practical training along with
individual commitment is critical to solve this problem that is medication administration error
but as a matter of fact, this ‘error’ or rather a life-threatening decision making outcome –
happens to be a huge barrier to nursing practice in my organization and also on the global
scale. Various psychological, sociocultural, social and educational barriers has been
identified that lead to this discrepancy between the best practice guidelines in nursing and
daily nursing practice in a clinical scenario. While the medication administration error
(Roughead, Semple & Rosenfeld, 2016) has been reported to happen or occur at a high rate in
acute and trauma informed care setup where the patient influx and criticality is quite high as
compared to the neurological or long term care department – certain research has raised
specific evidences in reducing these life threatening errors and enrich the patient centered
care.
The researches has revealed that the nursing principles such as totality, autonomy and
beneficence are the first level of strategy that has to be intervened with, which being
committed to critical decision making regarding medication. The new graduation nurses are
generally associated with medication administration errors due to anxiety, fear or

psychological disruption due to non- cooperation from the senior nurses – certain resolutions
like proper training, nursing collaboration, positive behavior, and motivation has been
identified as crucial form of enhancers in the scenario (Jochem, Scott & Stuckman, 2016).
Other than this, Health Information Technology and electronic data management are the
recent advances in the medical and nursing framework that helps in effective clinical
reasoning in the new and experienced nurses as well as enhance proper data keeping attitudes
in nurses. Access to electronic records by the nurses can help identify the right patients and
reduce the error.
Response to Question 2:
Nursing practice has advanced a great deal over the last decades and with emergence
of health informatics has eased the process of nursing care towards a more patient centered
and professionalism. Electronic records has helped the patient data is kept, synchronized and
how the medical history along with medical treatment records are linked to the cases. The
information technology now assist the nurses (both new and experienced) to access the data
of the patient whom they are, with a lot of easiness that decrease time consumption and the
level of patient satisfaction (Sittig & Singh, 2015). While the nurses should be trained
critically on how to use the data system at any point of time – care must be taken to
strengthen the administrative framework that facilitate the same. Health information
technology elevates the level of skillful decision making and better understand of patient
condition with a lot of clarity and in a hassle free manner. Health information technology aid
the new nurses specially, to process the patient information with a lot more attention and
simplicity and help reduce the aforementioned psychological disturbances such as confusion,
anxiety, stress, irrational thinking and other barriers to nursing practice.
