Journal and Reflective Writing
AI Summary
This nursing reflection details the author's experiences in a clinical setting, focusing on patient handling techniques such as the use of bed draw sheets, slide sheets, and hoist lifters. The author describes their feelings about these practices and evaluates their effectiveness, highlighting the benefits of reduced workload for nurses. The reflection also analyzes the potential drawbacks, such as the risk of skin tears and infections from using draw sheets and slide sheets. The author suggests that the use of slide sheets should be permitted for turning heavy patients and proposes an action plan that emphasizes the importance of employee feedback and senior medical official input to improve patient care and minimize negative outcomes. The assignment is a valuable resource for nursing students seeking insights into clinical practice and reflective writing.

NURSING REFLECTION
NURSING REFLECTION
Description of the experience
My work place has been able to expose me to quite a number of issues that are taking
place in the nursing world. Due to this, I have been able to encounter some of the best
experiences so far which I had never experienced before but I could only hear from different
medical practitioners. My workplace is able to encounter different types of patients who appear
to be suffering from different conditions and in most occasions, a good number of them are
always be hospitalized for sometimes. To ensure that operations are carried out efficiently, all the
nurses within the workplace are always required to implement the use of patient bed draw sheet
together with the slide sheet which whose main purpose is to carry and turn different types of
patients within the surroundings of the workplace (Siqueira, Bittencourt, Nóbrega, Nogueira &
Silva, 2015). At the same time, the clinical attachment place is able to adequately implement the
use of a hoist lifter that is used to carry and transfer different patients’ right from their bed
position to chair.
Feelings attached to the experience
As far as the whole experience is concerned, I feel that these parameters are indeed being
used by the medical practitioners in order to obtain a certain objective within the work
environment. Moreover, in order to benefit much from the entire experience, there is the need of
each and every individual to fully concentrate on different operations that are taking place within
the work environment (Omura, Yamagami, Hirota, Nakatani, Tsujimoto & Inoue 2019).

Evaluation of the experience
In relation to the experience, the ability to perfectly implement the use of hoist is capable
of greatly reducing the workload that is likely to be encountered by the nurses during their hours
of operations. At the same time, it also protects them from different health issues that they are
likely to get exposed to. On the other hand, the nurses too have a protocol to clearly stand out
and decide on whether to use either draw sheet or slide sheet for the lifting of patients (Van der
Riet, Rossiter, Kirby, Dluzewska & Harmon, 2015). In as much as both the draw sheet and the
slide sheet are capable of performing quite a number of positive tasks, the friction that is likely
to be encountered during operation is capable of causing skin tear and at the same time they are
likely to cause infections of various diseases.
Analysis of the situation
It is of much importance to make sense of the entire situation by carrying out an
advanced and reliable form of analysis (Fey & Jenkins, 2015). As far as my perception is
concerned, the hoist can be best used in the lifting of the patients but it is not that essential when
it comes to turning them in different positions. As a result of this, I realized that there is quite a
number of staff that tends to be experiencing difficulties when it comes to turning of the patients
without the use of the slide sheet. I therefore feel that the relevant authorities should allow the
use of slide sheet together with draw sheet when it comes to turning of the heavy patients.
Conclusion
In relation to what is entailed in the whole situation, I was able to learn that most of the
staffs are subjected to difficult condition of operations when they encounter the turning of heavy
patients without making good use of the slide sheet. At the same time, I was able to learn that

different types of infections are likely to be spread when both the draw sheet and slide sheet are
being used for various purposes.
Action plan
Appropriate implementation of advanced remedies is among the best techniques that are
capable of perfectly dealing with the entire situation to make sure that various operations are
capable of moving forward in an efficient manner (Wang & Geale, 2015). Due to this, when
similar situations are capable of taking place in the near future, one of the best ways to deal with
it is to be diverse and be able to give each and every employee a chance to speak about the
difficulties that they are likely to encounter within their respective work environments. Through
this, it will be much easier to adequately highlight some of the crucial areas where loopholes are
likely to emerge thus implementing a solution at an early stage. Moreover, there is also the need
to fully engage the senior medical officials within the medical sectors in order to listen to their
perceptions regarding how they are capable of understanding the whole situation (Kalb,
O'Conner-Von, Brockway, Rierson & Sendelbach 2015). This will make sure that the emergence
of negative outcomes is minimized as much as possible.
