Context:This assessment task is designed to further develop the student’s ability to
reflect on their practice, and consider areas for improvement. Self-
reflection is an essential part of personal growth, and this assessment has
been designed to guide students through this process. The research
component of this task is aimed at supporting students to consider the
gaps in their knowledge; and provide an opportunity to transfer their
understanding of content to a specific case, demonstrating insight into the
relevance and ability to apply this knowledge.
Instructions:
Students are to use the attached template to complete their
reflections and related research pieces.
For each case that is taken (including all real patients, mock cases
and paper cases), students are expected to complete the reflective
log component of this assessment.
Each week (10 weeks), one case will be accompanied by a research
piece. The topic of this piece will be determined by the Clinic Supervisor,
in response to identified gaps in knowledge relating to a specific case

that has been presented. The presentation of the research piece can
vary, and will be relevant to the type of information that is being
explored.

Examples can include:
 Patient handouts
 Product comparisons with an accompanying discussion
 Further exploration of treatment protocols
 Specific topic research discussions
 Review of pharmaceutical medications
Each piece must clearly be related to a case that has been presented, and links
must be made throughout. If the student is completing a patient handout, then a
short discussion needs to be included in the Research Piece box in the template.
If a student has been scheduled into the Dispensary or is on Administration
Duties, then the Clinic Supervisor needs to assign a Research Piece that is
related to a previous case, which has not had a research topic already linked
to it.
