2PROPOSAL: OBESITY PREVENTION PLAN
Background
Overweight and obesity is one of the chronic diseases which leads to other physical and
mental disorders. It has been seen that Australia is affected by obesity in a harmful condition, as
two-third of the population is overweight or obese. A total of 67 percent of Australian person is
overweight or obese on 2017 to 2018 census, and it has been increased from 63.4 percent of
2014 2015 (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2019). In this context, it has been stated
that the reduction of obesity among people of Australia should be a priority. It has been seen that
obesity is caused due to bad eating habits and also a sedentary lifestyle (Allender et al., 2015).
Moreover, obesity can lead to different cardiovascular diseases and also one of the most
prevalent chronic diseases, diabetes. On this context it can be stated that the process of the
lifestyle changes and even the education to the people will be required as it has been seen that the
health literacy of the people also play a crucial role in the development of obesity and other co-
morbidities (Sahoo, Sahoo, Choudhury, Sofi, Kumar & Bhadoria, 2015).
According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 41 percent of the total
population has adequate health literacy (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2019).
Hence, it can be stated that the process of health literacy development among people is required
with the highest priority. On the other hand, the factor of physical activity plays a crucial role in
the process of obesity reduction. Thus the training regarding the operation of the obesity
reduction or control the proper health condition is required as well. On this context it can be seen
that the sedentary lifestyle of people and the low level of knowledge regarding the obesity and
other effects on the health should be evaluated and also improve the condition is required with
the highest priority (Gentile, Fornai, Pellegrini, Colucci, Blandizzi & Antonioli, 2018).
Moreover, the motivation for physical activity is also a factor that should be assessed for the

improvement of the condition. Hence, it can be stated that the process of obesity reduction is one
of the elements that focus on the factor of proper knowledge development and changing the
situation by implementing the action. Furthermore, it can be seen that obesity leads to other
issues like cardiovascular diseases. Hence, the reduction of obesity will be helpful in the
reduction of the morbidity and mortality rate of the people. It has been seen that the Australian
population is multicultural, and the cultural beliefs of the people also affect the health condition
and lead to obesity development. Smoking and alcohol consumption rate of the Indigenous
people is also a factor that should be reduced with priority (Traversy & Chaput, 2015). Hence, it
can be stated that the maintaining autonomy and focusing on the process of the cultural ethics for
the knowledge development among the Indigenous people is very much required for the
betterment of the health outcome of the community.
Other than all these, the young people of the population are mostly affected due to the
negligence and junk food consumption in a rigorous amount (Shafer, Borsky, Ngo-Metzger,
Miller & Meyers, 2019). Hence, the condition should also be assessed and focused on the
improvement of the health outcome of people. The future growth is solely dependent on the
knowledge of the people and their thought process regarding the health condition and the obesity
of the people. The motivation for physical activity is very much crucial to reduce the obese or
overweight state of the young and adult people. Hence, health care professionals, health
educators and the government should be partnering for the development or improvement of the
health outcome of obese people (Wilksch et al., 2015). Moreover, the analysis of the health
condition of different communities of the country should also be analysed by the implementation
of quantitative survey as well. The survey result will be helpful in marking the most affected area
regarding the obesity rate. Then the planning for the improvement of the health outcome of those
