Numbers of children taking free school meals in different
regions of the UKIntroduction
In England, there are around 2.2 million school children are living in poor condition, where 1.5
million of them get Free mid-day meal during school hours. Through this figure, it has been
identified that Tower Hamlets, is at topmost state of England, which provides highest rate of
FSM and continuously make efforts to extent entitlement to children of low income working
families, which may reduce their stigma.
It has been concluded from this report that however, 1.5 million of children out of 2.2 million
ones, receive free school meals, where England has spent near about £500 million annually.
But still around 70,000 children are left from this FSM. So, Government of UK needs to
concern more on extending this entitlement and provide all children of poor families, proper
mid-day meals.

Free school meals (FSM) are considered as crucial entitlement provided by government at schools to those families who are
living in poverty. The main aim behind providing the free meals at schools is to ensure that children belong from lowest
income families get nutritional meal on daily basis. This poster draws a number of sources for developing analysis and result,
where one of the country of UK is chosen by taking random sampling method i.e. England.

It has interpreted from this figure that to provide mid-day meals, there are number of primary and secondary schools in UK,
which are funded by state government to provide free meals to children who belong from minority communities or lowest
income families are increasing continuously. This would help in providing health as well as educational benefits to children.
Through evidence of state funded schools and various surveys, it has been evaluated that eating healthy meal help in
increasing concentration of children, to conduct study. It also impacts positively on their classroom behaviour.
