Executive summary
A company’s occupation health and safety comprises of principles and procedures
that give guidance for action. In this report I will give a brief summary of a company
that have 20 or more workers and explore elements which form OH&S program it’s
goals and importance, the paper will also give key factors for success when
implementing OH&S program in the organization.

Introduction
Apple Inc. is a multinational information technology company in America, the headquarters
of the companyis based in Cupertino California. The company design, create and sell
computer software, consumer electronics and online services. It is among the top four
technology companies along with Amazon, Facebook and google.
Apple Inc. hardware products include iPad tablet, iPhone smartphone, Mac PC, iPod media
player, Apple TV, Apple smartwatch and HomePod. The companies software include iOS
and macOs operating systems, Safari Web Browser, iTunes media player, and the iWork and
iLife productivity and creativity suits, and also professional computer applications Logic Pro,
Final Cut Pro and Xcode. The online services of the company are iOS App Store, iTunes
Store, Mac App Store, iCloud and Apple music.
Important goals of an OH&S program
The two important goals of OH&S program is to prevent accidents and occupational diseases.
It is important to implement this program because it helps in instigating the laws and
regulations and certifying a safe working environment for employees (Government of Canada,
2019).
Elements of OH&S program
OH&S program is a health and safety program that is referred to as a fixed plan of action that
is design and created to avert accidents and work-related diseases (Government of Canada,
2019). The following are the four element of OH&S program
Individual responsibility
This refers to an obligation of an individual to perform an assigned tasks. This
element was created in order to make workers aware of their duties, to have an

authority of performing them and to ensure that they have the needed ability and
competence in carrying out the duties. The element is very important because it make
workers to be responsible for their duties and working as per the company
requirements.
Employee orientation
This is the process by which the company employees is introduced to new job and the
working environment. Orientation gives an opportunity for newly employed people to
be acclimated to their new organization. This element purpose is to train workers and
prevent them from accidents that may occur due to inappropriate handling of work
equipment (The legisletive Assembly of Alberta, 2017).
Joint occupational health and safety committee
Joint health and safety committee is composed of employer and worker
representatives who are mutually committed to refining health and safety workplace
conditions. The main aim of the health and safety committee is to prevent injuries,
accidents or work related sickness (The legisletive Assembly of Alberta, 2017). The role
of the committee is to design and apply health and safety policies as stated in the
latest legislation policies and also to ensure that the procedures are implemented by
the management and the employee.
Training
Training is in oneself or developing others any knowledge or skills that is related to
any specific important competence, in this case training employees’ health and safety
measures in the workplace. The element aims is to prevent ill health and accidents

that may be caused when performing certain task. Since Apple Inc. is performing
business, it should understand that employees’ safety and health are very valuable. So
it is a legal duty of the company to safeguard health and safety of its employees.
Key factors for success when implementing OH&S program
A successful health and safety program gives a clear procedure of activities that, if it
is obeyed will minimize accidents and also cases of occupational health diseases. The
significant success factors is the way in which OH&S program is instigated and
maintained. Apple Inc. should show commitment and fully support this program by:
1. Ensuring that their employees are trained and certified according to the new
OH&S legislation. The company should arrange for training programs and
seminars for their employees.
2. Providing necessary resources like money, personnel and time. The resources
will help in sustaining the company and helping to meet its daily tasks.
3. Making all appropriate health and safety guidelines to be easily accessible to
all company workers. The safety guidelines should be put on the noticeboard
or any other means that can be easily read by employees.
4. Accounting the performance of health and safety to be part of the company
workers performance appraisal in all sectors.
These program should be communicated to all the company employees. Great
emphasis should be given to the newly employed workers, new supervisors
and the new members for health and safety team. Amendments of procedures
and policies should be circulated and should exist in one written document.

Though, if separated manuals have been created for several elements, like
investigation procedures for incidence, its application should be sourced from
then original document.
Conclusion
Employees are the greatest asset in a company because it helps in achieving business goals
it also helps a company to meet its moral and legal commitments in creating and maintaining
a health and a safe working environment. It is a duty of the company to ensure injuries and
hazards that may be faced by employees should be prevented at all cost. There I recommend
Apple Inc. to adopt the OH&S program.
