Occupational Health Safety and Environment (OHSE) is related to the health, safety
along with the welfare issues within a company. It is inclusive of the laws along with the
programs that helps in making a company a better place for the workers, customers along
with the stakeholders (Reese 2015). It is instrumental in improving the health along with the
safety standard that helps in ensuring the good business for a company. It is instrumental in
creating a brand image of an organization and it improves the morale of the employees. This
essay discusses about the main drivers that has helped in the developing of the OHSE in the
form of a societal concern. The essay also talks about the emergence of OHSE as discipline
in the present age.
There were drivers behind the developing of the OHSE that has made it a concern of
the society. The employees have to face the health hazards and this has necessitated the
developing of the work, health and the safety policies. The slippery floors and the unguarded
machinery can injure the employees of a company and this has given rise to development of
OHSE. The employees have to face the bad consequences of the biological along with the
psychological hazards and this has paved the path for the health along with the safety norms
within a company (Amponsah-Tawiah and Mensah 2016). It can help in preventing the strain
and the stress of the employees and is of crucial importance in the modern age. The work
practices that are poorly designed can badly affect the workers and this has driven the need of
OHSE within the framework of an organization. It has become the societal concern as it can
help in ensuring the well-being of the overall society. It can help in the implementation of
laws that can pave the path for the establishment of safe environment that can cater to the
needs of the employees (Badri, Boudreau-Trudel and Souissi 2018). The OHSE can help in
the prevention of the dangerous situations like the fire that can contribute to the welfare of the
broader society (Sinelnikov, Inouye and Kerper 2015). The employees should be aware about
their duties and responsibilities that can create the way for the establishment of a just society.
