Introduction
Sustainability is doing work while considering the requirement of the resources for the upcoming
situation that is the completion of the work without harming and depleting the existing resources.
Sustainability in the construction industry includes sustainability in building creations in a
complex and vast aspect that is to be acknowledged from the initial stages, the reason being the
impacts of the potential environment is very significant. If the major issues that are considered
while construction, over the environment would be, for instance, 45 percent of carbon emission
of the UK in total. In the case of new building construction, the consumption of resources is
must, which can be helped by the contractors and designers to minimize the consumption,
however, would not be able to change the commitment overall (Epstein, 2018). For this purpose,
the report will include Old Oak common and royal park regeneration project in London.

balance the three aspects that is the social economic and environment. This can be done
through rapid changing in development and use of technology

 Encouraging enhancing the resources and conserves resources – through sustainable
development the company could be able to encourage the enhancement of the non-
renewable resources and conserve them in a better way (Epstein, 2018)
 Helpful in mitigating the global environmental threats – through integrating sustainable
development to the social, environmental, and economic prospects it could be possible to
deplete the threats global environment, for instance, the climate change (Tukker &
Charter, 2017).
 Reduced poverty, unemployment, pollution, and poor housing – sustainability
development is responsible for acts like fair taxation, workers’ rights, business ethics, and
trade. This will result in a reduction in poverty through an increase in opportunity.
Decrease pollution while considering climate change action (firstcarbonsolutions, 2018).
Key achievements and lessons of the London Olympic
Park and its influence on this project
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, was built in 2012, which was identified for sustainable
development considering the environment and sustainability. The park considered to keep the
promise for the creation of sustainable development, with the resources required and the world’s
changing climate. The objective was the appropriate use of games’ innovation, inspiration, and
infrastructure, for which the park was designed according to sustainability as its core
significance. For this, the London legacy development corporation’s sustainability was included,
which focuses majorly on four themes that are smart parks, future living, garden district, and
neighborhoods. This was one of the major infrastructures of the country which could be the key
learning for the project. For instance, the sustainability report of the London Olympic park 2030.
The major learning from this has included the major sustainability action for construction
industry were checking the energy center, this was identified to be done through innovative
infrastructure, which will provide cooling to venues, low carbon heat, neighborhoods, and

 Water management and conservation – this included the #goal to minimize the use of
water demand and enhancing the efficiency through innovative technology, handling the
local flooding, sensitive urban landscaping and designing, and water pollution course.
 Energy conservation and reducing carbon – the major learning was to implement the zero
carbon buildings prior to policies need of government and targeting for the stringent
minimization in emission around all work streams of a development corporation
 Waste management – this included the commitment to enhance the waste stream
recycling, reduction in waste production, and eventually delivering the zero waste. This
infrastructure was able to implement to reduce waste, which can be included for the other
construction projects.
 Transport and connectivity – the use of a sustainable mode of transportation to deplete
the overall need for traveling and reduction of emission.
 Open space and biodiversity – this is to enhance the biodiversity, through increase the
open space use, and better utilization of land.
 Sustainable lifestyle – this included developing a program, which will help in reducing

Therefore, it can be said that the major sustainability developments must be considered for
the project that the Old Oak common and royal park project could include

The old oak common and royal park corporation is a community for West London. The
opportunity for area planning frameworks was prepared to identify the opportunity areas in
London plans. It was observed that the Old Oak has the opportunity scope to evolve and could
redesign over the coming time to in order to promote a new healthy, sustainable, and successful
section of the nation. The major objectives of the plan, which could have contributed towards the
sustainable development, included the creation of new urban quarter, which will be liable to
deliver 24 thousand households in Old Oak and more than fifteen hundred households in non-
industrial areas in Royal Park. This is to promote affordability and typologies, which will be
helpful in meeting the requirements of existing and new residents (greenbiz, 2019).

Another sustainable issue or opportunity was to connect, for which OPDC tends to enhance the
local connections among transportation, in order to promote the area and regenerate as one of the
best connection areas in London, through this the Old Oak common and royal park can make
relevant contribution towards gaining the competitiveness while considering the sustainability
(london.gov.uk, 2019).
Third sustainable issue or opportunity identified was a community, which the corporation
considers promoting the economic growth that will be helpful in diminishing the inequality for
Londoners. This will be helpful for promoting the development of the community by providing
the homes, jobs, and social infrastructure (greenbiz, 2019)
Land use strategy, the major sustainable opportunity identified was the use of land in a more
sustainable way. With the plan, it was confirmed, it was said that the urban quarter must be
redeveloped comprehensively in order to make it available for the accommodation of minimum
twenty-four thousand households and increase the jobs to be increased 55,000. This leads to one
of eth major sustainability issue that is the requirement of new transport, social infrastructure,
and utility. This will require the resources from the environment and society. For this, London
sustainable development commission tends to plan for low carbon redevelopment to promote
cleantech hub. The city’s mayor was advised to create low carbon economy, for which the
planning framework consider the goals and vision to achieve the energy efficiency as per the
highest standards and low carbon technology, for which the GLA has pledged to produce energy
master plan for the location.
Smart cities wave, this is another sustainable issue identified, as the city was in the urgent need
of energy solution, for which the transformation was considered. Internet of things approach was
considered for the innovative software that will be useful for energy consumptions assets. They
would enable the advanced forms that would be rolled out from various equipment through
demand response technology (greenbiz, 2019).
Recommendations
 Green roofs – this could be included to keep the roofs cool, building the resilience for
preventing the area from floods, and creation of open space.

 Keeping dry – it is recommended to include the urban drainage into the designing
strategy of the project
 Use of appliances – highly efficient appliances must be used to save the energy depletion
and wastage
 Smart meters – this could be helpful in monitoring and control the use of energy and the
smarty appliances could be implemented to reduce the consumption
 Recycle it – the state could promote the zero waste strategy that includes the waste to
landfills (Titarenko, 2017)

Conclusion
From the report, it can be concluded that the sustainability plays relevant role in ensuring the
availability of resources for future generation. The cities are converting into sustainable cities,
for the reason to reduce the harm to the environment. Sustainability development influences the
economy of the nation, social implications, and environment in whole. It was observed that the
sustainability is relevant in the construction industry to greater extent, for instance, In the case of
new building construction, the consumption of resources is must, which can be helped by the
contractors and designers to minimize the consumption, however, would not be able to change
the commitment overall. The report included Old Oak common and royal park project in
London, for sustainability development. The major sustainable issues or opportunity identified
were the transportation and local connection, the energy consumption and carbon emission, for
which the opportunity for area planning frameworks works and assign to develop the area into
more sustainable.
Other major infrastructure in London was Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, through which their
were various aspects that can be considered as learining from the sustainable project that can
influence Old Oak common and royal park project.
