In India the state of Maharashtra ius the biggest producer of onions, accounting 41 % of thetotal production. Besides this, The Lasalgaon is the largest onion market in India. Despite being oneof the largest producer of the onions in the world, the harvestors faces losses in post harvestconditions due to adverse weather condition, lack of dormancy, pest and diseases and economicchanges. Thus, this leads to the rise in the prices of the onion in the market, that has been a majorissue for the suppliers and harvesters.Onions are highly perishable commodity and can't be stored for longer period. Theharvesters face major losses due to conventional methods of storage. Thus, due to excess ofproduction and supply, and inefficient measures to store the onions for long term will lead to therise in its prices.
