Impact of European integration on national parliaments
European integration is process of integration of states wholly or partially in Europe or
nearby and this integration is in form of industrial, economical. Political, legal, social and
cultural integration. This integration has primarily come from European Union and its policies
and it has made significant impact on national democracies and national parliaments. As more
decisions are taken in integration this reduces power and involvement of national parliaments on
decision-making about their countries. Due to impact of European integration national
parliaments have also become less democratic. The reason that major political and economic
decisions are being made by integration and European Union. Along with this, decisions that are
taken by national parliament also require to be in line with decisions and policies of European
Union or integration. European integration has also affected national parliaments of UK and they
are able to meet commitments of peace and prosperity within country and with other countries in
Europe. This means that through integration national parliaments have become able to address
and resolve problems that they could not do because of their nature and increasingly globalised
world. This means that members states of European integration have several types of benefits
however, it has some negative effects on national parliaments. The impact is in form of reduced
contribution of citizens in parliamentary decisions of the country they are living in. Decision-
making in area of policy has moved to European integration because of which money and
monetary policy, economic organisation and labour market and several other issues of national
interest has come under policies and prescription of European integration, which affect direct
role of national parliament in decision-making. National democracies have become politics
without policy because of integration. As a result of European integration small countries of
Europe and parliament with less power in globalisation became able to stand along with big
countries and nations. Small countries and parliament of Europe became able to be part of
supranational region and this increases scope and scale of small countries. Germany is one of
nation that had great influence when European Union was acting as bargaining arena during
Eurozone crisis. German constitutional court is only national court that assert its rights to vet
such as EU decisions and casting uncertainty on those decisions. Germany's parliament has been
greatly influenced by the integration because Germany has over-sized influence in European
Union and national democracy of Germany also have impact on European Union. Along with
this constitutional courts and parliament of Germany have played important role in deciding
