Introduction
Wind power generation refers to the process through which wind turbines uses the energy of
wind to produce electricity.in the republic of Ireland wind power generation is considered to
be one of the largest sources of energy as by March 2017 the production is 2878 megawatts.
The production in Ireland includes the onshore and offshore wind energy generation [1].
Onshore wind refers to the turbines which are located on land away from the sea. The
onshore wind generation plays a major role in the production of renewable energy in the
republic of Ireland. It has the merit of being one of the cost friendly sources of renewable
energy and it has created many job opportunities to the people of Ireland, it has increased
security to the fuel supply of the republic of Ireland [2].

Offshore wind generation refers to the wind turbines which are located in sea waters. Ireland
offshore is on of world largest offshore source of energy many job opportunities are created
during the construction of such projects. The speed of wind in the sea is higher as compared
to the land thus providing greater returns. Also in terms of transportation of turbines to the
site of installation offshore is much easier as compared to onshore [3]

POLICY: Standards in place and laws to abide by onshore and offshore wind generation in
the republic of Ireland [4].

The public consultation policy on onshore wind generation: The public is engaged on the on-
going projects and all the policy documents which are created for the same. Involving the
public in the creation of the onshore policies ensures that there is no complains which arises
from the general public of the people of Ireland [1].
National planning policy for onshore wind generation: This policy is to ensure that all the
developments which are carried in the onshore wind generation are geared towards the
achieving of the Ireland wind energy vision 2050[4].
Large offshore wind farm developments policy: The policy ensures that the companies which
ventures into the offshore wind generations meet given standard of the output. The companies
which meet the requirements as per the policies are allowed to venture commercially into the
production.[5]
The offshore wind turbines should have a deep foundation of a depth of up to 60 metres deep.
This is to ensure that the turbines withstands the high speed sea winds and waves which if not
