INTRODUCTION
Operation management is process of managing business practice to increase level of efficiency
within a business organization, operation include management of material, labour and final
goods to maximize the profit of firm. This study is based on Barker and Stonehouse, this is one
of the largest furniture brand in the UK operating customize range of furniture products (Jay and
Barry, 2016). This report will discuss explanation of operation vs. operation management and
critical implementation of operation management in the selected organization. Later this report
will discuss operation management lean principles and continuous improvement philosophy. At
last, this report will discuss recommendation to improve operation management in the business
firm.

Barker and Stonehouse is one of the finest furniture brand in the UK dealing in customize
furniture products, this company have powerful operation management capabilities allowing
them to deliver high quality of furniture products in provided time. Barker and Stonehouse have
capabilities to cover market demand, this brand has footprint in furniture retail market of the UK
(Barker and Stonehouse, 2022). This furniture brand also has global footprint and demand,
however, due to low speed of growth, Barker and Stonehouse unable to sell their products in
other nation. Located in Stockton-on-Tees, UK, this company is focusing on increase their
operation unit and expanding market.

Operation is process of converting raw material into finish goods, operation management is
critical process in which management of overall business activity is been performed. Operation
may include those activities in which crafting of product is performed, operation include method
and technique to develop something (Barnes, 2018). However, overall management of business
often call operational management in which every department is effectively managed by the
