INTRODUCTION
Operations management is concept which includes planning, organising, coordination
and controlling of operations in an organisation. It is concerned with transforming raw materials
into goods or services as outcome efficiently to increase profitability of business. Amazon Inc. is
American multinational company based in Washington and deals in E-commerce, digital
streaming, artificial intelligence and cloud computing. This report will include implementations
of operations management principles in an organisation and evaluate them critically (Artto,
Ahola and Vartiainen, 2016). It will also include continues improvement plan based on
operations management principles in business. Project life cycle will prepare supporting
documents for completion of project and apply it to each stage to examine project. Different
theories, concepts and models use to review effectiveness of project life cycle will also be
included in this study.
TASK1
P1 Review and implement operations management principles in context of organisation
Operations is process of transforming raw material, labour and other resources into goods
and services as outcome of procedure. It involves all those activities which are concerned with
converting inputs like resources and manpower into finished goods or services that will satisfy
customers needs. On the other hand, operations management is management concept which plan,
organise, control operations of business effectively so that profit can be maximised. It is process
of planning, executing and controlling operations of organisation so that it become effective in
nature. The principles of operations management are aligned with scientific management
principles of F.W. Taylor which are used to improve productivity of employees so that efficiency
can be achieved. Amazon Inc. is one of big multinational companies operating at global level so
there is need that its operations are managed properly so that revenues can be increased. There
are principles of operations management which lays down fundamentals for activities and
elements while planning processes for business, some of them are as follows:
Organisation: Processes in E-commerce and connected with each other and there is need
that they are organised. This is proving out to be beneficial for Amazon Inc. as organising
operations of business will lead to reduce duplication of activities and tasks gets completed on

time. This operations management principles have aligned with Equal Division Principles Of
Scientific Management so that managers does planning and employees are responsible for
executions by organising resources so that there is no delay in delivering systems.
Accountability: One of most essential principles of operations management is
accountability in processes of business. Managers of Amazon Inc. are expected to be accountable
for their teams and all activities should be directed towards organisational goals. This will help
company to reduce errors, defects, increased quality, motivated employees are team leaders have
responsibility. Although this may increase work load on team leader and members which may
result in conflicts and dissatisfactions. This can be reduced by applying Co-Operation Principles
Of Scientific Management which states that employees should work collectively to achieve
objectives.
Variances: There is always some deviations in processes which needs rectifications and
actions so that effectiveness is maintained. These variations should be seen as scope for
creativity so that new innovative ways can be introduced to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
This aligned with Development Of Employees Principles Of Scientific Management which lays
emphasis on training staff and motivating them so that they can introduce innovative ways to
complete processes (Chih and Zwikael, 2015). This need to be adopted by Amazon so that new
innovative procedures are introduced in operations to achieve business goals and develop brand
image at global level.
Change: This principle is assisted by variances, as it create scope for changing present
methods and introducing new innovative techniques to perform that task. This allows flexibility
in processes so that they can be change according to need of business environment. Amazon Inc.
with the help of this principles can be innovative in industry and gain competitive advantage
over other companies.
Quality Control: Controlling quality of activities is one of main objectives or aim of
organisation so that its brand image increases. This also ensures that customer specifications are
met and customer loyalty towards brand is increase. This completely aligned with Rule-Of -
thumb Principles of Scientific Management which states that methods for quality control should
be based on scientific study. Business who fails to achieve quality in operations suffer losses and
survival related issues. Amazon Inc. by this principles will make sure that quality is under
controlled and customer demands are met on time.
