INTRODUCTION
Layout planning refer as deciding on best physical arrangement of all the sources that can be
utilised within the facility. It mainly aims to improve the efficiency by organising the materials
according to its functionality. Work system process refer as the system where the human and
devices performs the task by using data, technologies and other resources in order to design
product and services for the customers. Scheduling and work place planning is the last stage
within the planning and designing of the operation, where scheduling deals with allotment of the
resources with their priority, and to complete the task in suitable time frame. Inventory
management define as process to order, utilise, store and trading of organisational inventory.
Asda organisation a British supermarket chain, headquarter of the company is located in Leeds,
England. Besides its core to Retail market company also provide the assistance services for
insurance and payment. This report will cover how operation scheduling techniques can be
utilised to develop plan when arranging work, also discuss the importance of inventory
management policies and knowledge of layout planning and work system process. It will also
discuss the description of developing the plan for using scheduling techniques.
MAIN BODY
Operation scheduling techniques for formulating a plan to organise work
Operation scheduling refer as the process used to processed the assigned task to right devices or
machines. Thu simply it is prescribing approach which sets the timeline for every execution of
any operation during the manufacturing process. Scheduling provide flexibility in capacity
planning as to decreasing bottlenecks, it helps in streamlining the whole process as to deliver the
specific product and services at time (Dendauw and et.al 2021). It is also beneficial in
sequencing the different job works. ASDA company can also proceed to implement scheduling
approaches to add time frame in their work, it will allow them to meet the requirement of their
customer. Main components of the scheduling are scheduling direction, resource ability, and
optimisation of different materials. Following operational scheduling technique ASDA company
can be beneficiated by controlling or managing their planning strategy, they can easily optimise

the resources with schedule production and can be able to analyse the alternative of the resources
for cost efficiency.
Benefit of Utilising Operation scheduling:
Making efficient use of scheduling will enable the organisation to take use of their
labour, by allotting them a task which they are able to complete in productive or timely manner.
It helps in increasing revenue as well as improvise the service level within firm. Thus with this
ASDA will be able to enhance performance level by meeting all deliverable dates. Scheduling
helps in decreasing the manufacturing or worker cost, which is good for the company’s will, as
they can save financial asset for further business investment.
Scheduling can be done using two approaches which are as follows:
Forward scheduling: It is planning which is set with the primary aim to lay out the task as soon
as possible or in a plenty of time (Duong, Wood and Wang, 2020). In manufacturing process this
term simply define as to plan the task in a manner so that every stage will take plenty of time to
complete whole process, it can be done when there is complete availability of time and other
resources. By implementing this technique ASDA firm can be able to complete their production
process of their product immediately or before the delivery date. It can be only done, when
company need to connect with suitable vendor who provides all necessary resources on time.
With this firm will proceed to utilise the high labour rate, whenever there is need for ASDA to
deliver task before deadline, then they can utilise their work force in carrying out the task, it also
helps the firm to implement such a workflow which gives them maximum output without
straining work place culture. Thus company can also move forward to greatly influx their orders
as by managing resources to meet the requirement of new orders.
Backward scheduling: This approach is used when the businesses develop their goods at last
possible present before the delivery date (Ficko and et.al 2021). In which the order of items
started with the planned receipt date and due deliverable date, it is completely referring by the
customer’s order. Thus in case of ASDA they will proceed to use this technique when they are
planning to begin manufacturing to deliver product on specific required date. Means if their
client wants to deliver their service on such date, then it is the responsibility of firm to meet the
client’s requirement and to provide their deliverable items on suggested time frame. Its main
advantage is it lowers the costs of production as materials and raw resources can only be used
when there is necessary, therefore ASDA will not have the inventory for product as the

manufacturing is ended only on due dates. Since the resources and materials are not committed
yet means if there is any changes in production speed, then firm can easily made changes.
Therefore, with this ASDA can easily plan their work place, by utilising limited
resources, firm can easily produce the maximum output with the help of machinery equipment’s,
labour force (Hosseinnia, Modarresi and Nazarpour, 2020). With this scheduling technique they
can simply record the process or data for overall efficiency and utilisation of sources. With this
firm can easily prioritise their orders and record the process quantity data and also stores the
output information for tracking the capacity control.
Importance of inventory management policies and its use in control production cost
Inventory management can be understood as a approach for ordering, managing, and selling the
organisational inventories. It involves the resource management, also warehousing of different
raw materials can also come into this. Business owners and management staff concentrate on this
process because usually inventory present the second most greatest expenditure of the
organisation behind payroll process. As for the establishment of inventory policies it includes the
accountability, recording. Better inventory management strategy helps the firm to enhance the
efficiency of inventory orders. Proper management enable to complete analyse exact amount of
inventory which is required (Huo, Ann and Wu, 2018). With this there will be no shortage in
availability of resources, thus ASDA can easily manufacture their product and services.
Inventory control
Inventory mange the path for competitive ability:
Utilisation of inventory management promotes the inventory control by increasing the
market share, thus it clears the path for the competitive capability. As business values, significant
mean factors all are considered by the organisation to support their business by developing
competitive edge, thus all the value factors display the importance of inventory control and
management.
Inventory planning enhances services:
With solid inventory, ASDA will be able to know what resources are available, so that
they can easily know what are the necessary resources which are required, in such they will
invest or purchase only those sources which helps in reducing the waste (Khallouli and Huang,
2021). It is what all businesses required as effective inventory management enables firm to

repeat their clients, as if ASDA Wants to retain their client as by providing them better services
and products, thus with the inventory management they will be able to meet customer
requirement swiftly.
Inventory planning decreases the storage cost:
Advantage of inventory envisage on concentrating to inventory plan and decrease the
storage cost as to maintain the adequate inventories. Loading and commonalities factor which are
manifested from complete inventory management, these factors plays an important role in
lowering the storage cost and enhances the growth rate by utilising adequate inventory control
(Kigsirisin and Miyauchi, 2021). Understanding the trends in stock, ASDA can easily know how
many and where they have something in their stock so that they can easily able to utilise the
stock. It also enable the firm to store the less stock in warehouse, as they can easily proceed to
pull the resources from anywhere to complete the orders. Thus all these will allow to decrease
the cost which is associated in inventory and reduces the stock amount which underwent unsold
before they are obsolete.
It improvises the cash flow:
With complete and efficient inventory management ASDA will proceed to spend
financial asset on those inventory which they sell, so the cash amount is always moving under
their business. Inventory turnover enhances the businesses cash flow, when the product are
always sold in the market not remain unsold in the shelves. High turnover also drives the strong
and powerful sales which needed the strong inventory control to fulfil the high demand of the
market. Thus it is also essential for the ASDA to grow the inventory requirement by increasing
the space and labour force. Company ca also begin to develop the system for monitoring their
inventory flow which enables them to predict the cash flow, thus it is beneficial for avoiding any
kind of errors which might give negative impact over the cash flow.
Monitor the sales for forecasting demand:
Great inventory enables the firm to carry out the accurate forecasting, as with this ASDA
can have the complete knowledge about their sales, means if they have complete idea that
amount of sales can be expected to develop then they can order only those inventory which is
required for designing the services and products (Krivulin, 2019). Thus firm can also track the
historical sales, as with this past data they can be able to make purchase of those inventory and
number of inventory which is essential for preparing the future orders. It is also important to pay
Document Page
careful attention to the seasonal changes which is made in sales, otherwise they will have to face
the drastic situations. It is also essential for the firm to analyse the impact which their promotion
campaign or marketing programs can make, thus ASDA need to track their marketing campaign
and its all effect on their product sales, with this they can easily manage or adjust their inventory
which is beneficial for reducing the production cost. Firm can also begin to identify the common
trends in economy as to analyse the economical states will enable to make prediction as demand
for their product in certain market will proceed to increase or not (Li, Fang and Baykal-Gürsoy,
2021). Thus with this they can increase their focus on those inventory whose cost and
performance will not be affected by changes in economy.
Thus in production management it controls the whole process, it will enable the firm to
manage the resources as to keep their control over the stocks, with this they are able to know
what thing are available at their firm, so that they can avid the shortage in stocks. Therefore,
availability of the resources will improve the production they can easily manufacture product and
services to meet the demand of the customer. With this ASDA company can benefited to cutting
down the amount of the products which is not mainly generating revenues and allow them to
invest on those project which gives the product that is able to develop good revenues for firm.
With the proper inventory management firm can satisfy their customers, as for any organisation
their customers play an important role, thus with this management they will meet the
requirement of the customer by providing them product in a timely manner, or without wasting
any time. Overall it ca be said that ASDA can easily found the need of the inventory, as with its
management they are allowed to focus on only those products which are producing maximum
sale in market, thus they can divert all their resources on those to reduce the cost which is made n
other product that have stable or constant output.
Knowledge of layout planning and work system process for Asda organisation
Layout planning is the deciding process where the arrangement of all the resources takes place. It
is found that decision making in the business is not only made when there is new facility present,
they can develop anytime when there are frequent changes found in resource arrangement (Liu
and et.al 2018). If there is change in any machine equipment, and the new work is introducing
and changes drives in approaches are processed, then the business decision develops. A well
design layout not only benefit the production process but it also helps the entire firm to develop

efficiency and reduce the time taken process in manufacturing cycle. Therefore, Layout planning
can be implemented any time if there is any facility enhancement is found. Work system is the
system which involves the human and machinery participation to lay out any specific task by
implementing suitable resources, technologies and data. It involves the supply chain, services for
both workers and consumers.
As for the ASDA both layout planning and work system process is beneficial with the
layout they will be able to increase their workplace productivity to improve their service quality
(Lönnström and Wiking, 2021). Thus with the work process system company can be benefited to
implement the work in a coordinated manner and gives the basic effective framework which is
used to lay out the service and products. Benefits of layout planning and work system process
are as follows:
In labour cost:
Good layout allow the firm to enhance the productivity by developing more product unit
per man hour. Thus it enables to complete the project on time with the sufficient work force,
which also means there is no certain motion or movement during the operations. Thus with the
help of layout ASDA can easily assign the task to those employees who are able to work on it,
with this they can easily make up the team which means they do not required to pay the
employees who are only playing task to be part of the team.
In production cost:
Good layout helps in increasing the rate of production, also provides the convenient
services for storing the storage points. Thus also helps in predicting the production time. ASDA
company can easily lay out their task whether it is complex or simple, by following the layout
company can easily predict the deliverable time of the product, it helps in completing the process
on time which is beneficial in decreasing the chances for unnecessary cost (Mazidi, Rezaei and
Ghaderi, 2019). With the proper layout, it is not important for the firm to completely supervise,
as they can already predict the result with this design, thus ASDA can be able to reduce their cost
which can be invested on inspecting the project. Also in manufacturing process it allows to
decrease the power consumption, as layout can give the better efficiency it helps in utilising the
resources, and with less handling results in better and efficient output.
Efficient inventory control:

Better layout helps in improving the inventory, as it reduces the in progress work which
assures the maximum turnover in inventory. Thus with this ASDA company can easily view the
easy and rapid move of the resources with the minimum mistakes. It will also enable them for
better work flow as it reduces the delay chances by eliminating the work accumulation at
essential point. With this layout ASDA can easily eliminates the changes so that it do not impact
the manufacturing process. Another benefit can be as with this ASDA can easily eliminate the
risk of accident, as if they have easy handouts of layout then they can easily arrange the
resources in organised manner so that it will reduce the accident threats for the employees
(Mohan, Lanka and Rao, 2019).
Work system process functionality enables the organisation to obtain the details of their
supplier in supplying of their raw materials. Thus with this ASDA can be able to design the
products and deliver it to their customer for fulfilling their demands. With this firm can also
target their customer and identify or recruit the best talent for their work place system. There are
many work system which can ASDA use-
Information system:
It is the system which is composed of the humans and system devices that can be used to
interpret the data for better results. ASDA company ca easily monitor their management and
operational task and to use this data for making effective decision for business. With this system
company can also be benefited to ICT which is information communication technology, as it will
enable the employees to interact with each other to cooperate with the business process in order
to accomplish the organisational task.
Service system:
It is referring as the configuration of the technology, which allow the firm to develop the
network which aims to deliver the better deliverable services in order to satisfy the requirements
of the customers.
Supply chain system:
Supply chain is the essential part of the business, it is the key system which is used to
procure the resources and other important materials which are required for production process
(Priore and et.al 2019). Thus by using this system ASDA company can be able to convert the
raw materials into the final output to generate the revenue for business. As in sophisticated
9

supply chain it is also analysed that used product can make another entry into the system at any
point where it can be recycled.
Therefore with the use of layout and work system process components ASDA company
can easily increase their revenues by enhancing the efficiency of work place as with better layout
they can be easily move to predict the desired outcomes and with the system efficiency they can
easily layout the desired specific task (Shyalika, Silva and Karunananda, 2020).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded managing the operation plays an important role for the
businesses, it helps in driving positive energy at work place to improve the whole process.
Above report have illustrated the operational scheduling techniques, as how it plays an important
role to enhanced the efficiency of task and to deliver it on time. This approach is utilized when
the organizations foster their merchandise finally conceivable present before the conveyance
date. In which the request for things began with the arranged receipt date and due deliverable
date, it is totally alluding by the client's organization. Implies to convey their administration on
such date, then, at that point, it is the obligation of firm to meet the client's prerequisite and to
give their deliverable things on proposed time period.
