The report is divided into twosections the first section is the analysis of the differences and the similarities between themanager and the leaders in the organization. Further, the functions of the manager are discussedaccording to the Fayol’s principles and the performance of the manager in the organization.Furthermore, various leadership theories are analyzed in the report which affects the organizationin different situations. Apart from this, another section is the discussion of the differentapproaches of the management operations and the role and functions of the operationmanagement. Furthermore, the importance and key factors are analyzed.TASK 1 Differences and similarities between a leader and manager The behaviors of the manager and leaders are different as the culture of the manageremphasizes control and rationality. The manager is the problem solver as they direct towards the2
structure, goals and employers working in the organization. Further, the behavior of the manageris flexible towards its employees as the manager asked his employees about the ways to achievethe results. On the other hand, the leaders are the person who influences the group of the peoplefor accomplishing the goal of the organization. Similarly, the behavior of the leader is such that ithelps in improving the well-being of the employees in the organization. For example, the leaderof the Virgin airlines, Richard Branson identifies the ability that inspires every important skill ofthe leadership also can focus on the well-being of the customers. The manager of theorganization communicates their expectations with their employees by not leaving the space forthe guess. The manager will make employers understand by telling them to improve theirbusiness. Furthermore, the leaders will try to solve the uncertainties that occurred in theorganization by introducing efficient methods for the organization. For example, the leadersshould be clear about when to solve the problems and when to listen to the problems. On theother hand, the managers of the organization will try to accept the distant attitudes towards thegoals also the goal arises from the necessities rather than desires. For example, Sylvia Metayer,CEO of the Sodexo Corporate Services Worldwide ensures that employees should be safe andfeel comfortable. Further, the manager also provides social interaction, ease and efficiency, andgrowth of the employers. Thus, the managers and the leaders both possess different behavior inthe organization towards their employers. The other difference is that the leaders have the employees who work for them while themanagers have the employees who follow the managers. Other than this the manager focuses onthe organizations by keeping its team on the task while the leaders have more creative minds foridentifying the solutions to the problems.(Ketokivi and McIntosh., 2017) For example, MaryBarra is the first female leader of the General Motors an automotive company, when thecompany faces the scandal she creatively transformed the company by implementing thepolicies. Further, the behavior of the manager differs because both of them have a differentperception of how to manage the organization for achieving the targets. Further, the manager willfollow the rules and regulations whether the employees are agreed or not. In this regard, managers are work-oriented and focus only on the work and are not care for the emotions andwelfare. Whereas, the leaders are providing the sense of the support rather than the commandingthe authority over employees and they are more motivated towards the achievements. Thus, the3
business owner needs to be a strong leader and manager both for making its team committedtowards the vision of success.Fayol functions of manager According to Fayol, there are five functions of a manager such as planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling. The manager of the Hilton organization should adoptthese functions so that the target which the manager has decided for the future of theorganization must be according to the planning. Similarly, if the targets are made according tothe plan this involves the time and implementation also it must consider the resources that areavailable in the organization as it makes sure the continuity of the organization. Further, thetargets that are planned for the betterment for the future reduce the overall cost and exerciseeffective control.( Gibson and Parkman., 2018) Apart from this, the next step after the planningis the organizing helps in the process of the establishment of the authority and the relationshipamong the selected people and the workplaces through which the team members workeffectively and efficiently. In this context, if the organizing is to focus on how to achieve thetargets and the objectives also the organization function well when it is well organized. Theorganization structure with the good division of the task and the functions leads to moreprofitability also helps in expanding the vertical ad horizontally both the sides of theorganization. The next function for the manager in the organization is the commanding in that theemployees will know what is expected out that when they are working the orders along with theinstruction must be clear. The employee maximizes their returns at the time when theinstructions gave with respect to activities that are assigned to them also the successful managersare having the integrity and they communicate properly and make their decisions. Further, working together along with the manager’s leads in achieving the corporate and the commongoals also helps in understanding the members of the team. Apart from this, the manager aftercommanding and assigning the work to the employers coordinates with them so that the targetsachieved in less time. The organization will function better when the actions are synchronizedwith the employers also through coordinating is ensuring that everything works well with theorganization. The team that is properly coordinated with the manager their procedures and theactions because of which their objectives achieved in an efficient manner. Furthermore, the4
