OPERATION MANAGEMENT 3
Introduction
Each functional aspect of the business has its essence importance and place in any business
organization. There is a balance between all departments, function, and activities since none
single area can be considered to be more important than the other. It is through the collaboration
of various departments which result to success, revenue and the development of each business.
Most businesses, however, categorize their activities into various shapes so as for having a clear
outline of the business activities too be performed by the organization. In the 21st century, there
are various major functions of business, and they include operation management, marketing,
sales, financial management, customer relations, information technology and research and
development (Stevenson 2014). No one department can be singled out as the most important for
the success of the business operations. Every function of the business department is unique and
has features or characteristics which make it vital for the business. It is, however, crucial to note
that operations are one issue which can be said to facilitate other departments and functions
(Enotes.com. 2015).
Despite the organization department or function, there is a process and procedure about that
workflow of the specific unit, and this means that operations are present in all departments.
Therefore there are various lines of operations and operating procedures. This brings the essence
of an effective operation management system in every business. Operation management provides
and understanding into the efficient and effective flow of work in addition to the smooth flow of
work in the entire organization (Kamauff 2009).
The effective implementation of operation management is essential in aiding the achievement of
the goals of the individual workers, teams and the whole organization in a smooth cost effective

way. It can, therefore, be concluded that operation management is vital and provides a life for the
organization. The function of this report is to provide a case study of the operation management
framework of ASDA Company by analyzing the importance and the function of the operation
management in the company.
Operation Management
It can be described as a management function and subject which deals with the supervision,
design, and reformulation of various business operations in the provision of goods and services.
Operation management for any business comes with two facets namely the company dimension,
and the other is customer dimension (Kamauff 2009). The company dimension seeks to have all
operations run in a cost effective, efficient manner while the customer dimension, on the other
hand, seeks to provide high-quality products and services. This means that in all operations in
any business, the company needs to guarantee its circumstance and financial state in addition to
catering for the needs of the customers. With this, we can define operation management as a
function which seeks to have a smooth flow of process and procedures in the conversion of
inputs using efficient and cost-effective methods into the required outputs. It is also used about
the production of goods and services and seeks to enhance the satisfaction level of value added
actions in variously given processes (Enotes.com. 2015). The fundamental goal of the operation
management department is to try and strike a balance between the cost and revenue. This is to
ensure that the organization makes maximum profits and at the same time provide high-quality
products and services. The operation functions activities such as the production and distribution
process. Big businesses usually maintain operation management systems and the processes are
not changed rapidly.
