INTRODUCTION
Management and operations is a branch that concerned with controlling, planning and
designing the method of business production of services and products (Bolden, 2016). Through
managing the overall activity of organization make their performance level higher than the other
companies have. Leader and manager perform management function in the firm successfully
through knowledge of leadership. TESCO is a British private limited company. There
headquarter in UK, Welwyn garden city. Tesco mobile, tesco bank and Budgens are subsidiaries
of the organization. Mr. Jack Cohen is the owner of the firm. This report explains the structure of
company and management, it also defines the role of manager and leader. This study describes
the impact of leaders and mangers in firm productivity and key operations. Thus, it included the
efficiency of operational that can help in achieving business objectives and goals. This project
explains the external environment factors impact on operational management and decision
making by leaders and managers.
PROJECT 1
1 Introduction of company and management structure:
Tesco is one of the most popular retailer organizations. It provides its good quality
grocery product and services to people with the help of 476000 employees (Park, Ungson, and
Cosgrove, 2015). Company's delivery service is faster than another firm has. They made
products for men, women and kids, like clothes, toys, gifts, food and wine etc. Tesco operate
their business in many countries like France, Hungary, China, Poland, Ireland etc. successfully.
Firm is owned by many partners, it was founded in 1919 about 99 years ago. Organization
provide their good quality services to customers.
It was a global organization that expands its business outside the UK in 12 countries of
the world, now they want to spread it more and more with having many customers with good
experiences while they are using their services or other things of TESCO. In industry there are
11 members of committee controlled by Dave Lewis who is the group CE. Company is based on
hierarchical structure that reflects their huge size of business. Cohen is the first chairman in
1947 to 1970 but at the present John Allan is the chairperson of company, they join this position

in March 2016. Alan steward is the financial executive, after changes in board four non
executive directors are retired and three get hired in the committee members.

Organization has many layers of management in small and large store. All these levels
play there important role through controlling and commanding (Jones Christensen, Mackey, and
Whetten, 2014). Store manager, Personnel and non food trading manger are very important part
of the whole managing structure. All they are connected with each other through this formation.
Through reducing stages of the structure organization can increase the flexibility.
2 Role of leaders and managers
Tesco is famous for their good quality products and services. In the organization it can
manage their whole production activity through managers and leaders; they both play their
different role for making business more successful than its competitors.
Manager role: this position is full of heavy responsibilities to manage the whole
performance activity in t Tesco. They are the producer, coordinator and planner or dealer (Chen,
Zhang, and Wang, 2014). They help in making company more successful in the marketplace. In
the firm they give direction to workers or other staff members for completing their task. They
also had known as many names, according to their work performances in various levels in the
