Supporting material:
A supporting material refers to statistics, facts, examples, testimony that strengthen our
claims. These are materials that used for measuring the validity of our statements (Tsampas et al.
2019). There are five types of speech supports used in the process of reasoning, they are, Facts,
Testimony, Statistics, Stories and Examples.
Facts: These are the information that are verified with appropriate measures. For
example, Mount Everest is the highest peak of the World.
Testimony: This is regarded as the opinions of an individual. Sharing ones point of view
is considered to be a testimony (Martínez-Martínez, Cauli and Alegre-Martínez 2019).
Statistics: This is considered to be the quantitative measure of an object or some amount.
The facts here are delivered in numbers. These are easy to analyze.
Stories: These are the real-life or imaginary events depicted by an individual or a group
of people.
Examples: These are the illustration of certain statements made by an individual.
Contextual Reasoning:
This is a method of selecting supporting materials based on the context in which a
reasoning is performed.
Example:
Politicians delivering speeches before the election is one of the greatest example of the
Contextual reasoning. They, in order to win the public’s sympathy or trust, talks about the recent

most tragic incidents or one of the most sensitive issues which affects the people the most. After
identifying them, they promise to fix it if they are brought into power.
Another example is the insurance person convincing an individual to purchase insurance.
They make sure that the clients have completely understood their policies and are ready to adapt
them.
