Task 1
a) Using Handy’s cultural typology (1986) or an alternative academic
cultural model, identify and discuss the earlier organizational culture
within the BBC, as observed by the Smith review:
It has been very evident that cultural environment in a organization affect their overall
performance. In the case study the cultural environments of BBC have been highlighted and
it has spotted that due to some cultural issues the company has lacked in communication,
management and networking. The subjects to these cultural changes are due to the
organizational changes happening in the country. Now there are various factor which affect
the overall performance of the company culture is also a factor which may affect a positive
organization's environment (Russo et al. 2013). Various radicals like gender gap, racism may
affect the fluent workforce environment in a company. These are some serious issue that a
company has to mitigate. In this process there are some theories which can be assessed by the
organization as they will help in pointing out different aspects that may affect an
organization's healthy run. In case culture the Handy’s cultural typology is said to be
extensive guideline which helps will help the transition to learn on how to manage the culture
in an organization. In accordance to the Handy’s cultural typology an organization is place
where different individuals come and perform their job roles having the same objectives the
organization. So it is very essential that there is a strong network between the employees and
the organization. It helps the company to deliver quality result within the deadline of time.
Now the typology also discloses that there are various rules, values, policies and legal
implication that are employed by the top level management in an organization in order to
maintain the decorum of the organization. Now the typology points out that these value,
policies and legal implication are the birth of the cultural value support by the organization.
This makes it evident that every organization with proper legal structure believes in their own
culture. According to this model the culture is derived from the values of each individual
which is working in the firm so the culture of each individual are to subject to respect
regardless of their type. Now derived from this culture there are mainly 4 cultures that an
organization follows in the operational activities they are as follows:
1. Power culture: In this culture the model believes in the fact that in some organization
the power of taking effective decision rest in hands of the top level management now
in this case the privilege of taking decision at will only rest with some employees
Page 2 of 14

Organisational Behaviour
which ultimately unifies the power of the company. While in some companies the
authority of taking important decisions are delegated this in this case the top level
delegated their authority to medium level management and then the latter delegates
the authority to lower level management in this process the authority of taking
decision is delegated to the grassroots. In case of the first management system the
managers can become partial but in case delegation of authority everybody has a
proper right to takes decision in the benefit of the organization.
2. Task culture: In this cultural mind-set the organization sets up team in order to
complete their operational activities in this case people with the same specialization
come into a team and work together. This culture in an organization is known to be be
more innovative and creative for the best of the organization's interest.
3. Person culture: In this type of organizational culture the individuals working in the
organization feel that they are more important than the organization. In this type of a
culture the company becomes less important in perspective of the employee and this
will affect the organization in the long run.
4. Role culture: In this type of culture the organization delegate the roles of the job
according to the specialization, educational qualifications and interest of the
individual which will help the the person to do the best for the benefit of the
company.
b) Analyse how culture, power and politics overall have affected the
behaviour within the BBC in the recent past and today:
According to the case study it is seen that the power of taking effective decision lie in the
hands of the top level management this why the company has been stubborn in terms of
concentrating of critical factors which has effect the cultural decorum of the organization.
The power factor means that the company has not delegation of authority which has in return
affect the company cultural environment in a significant way (do Carmo Silv and Gomes,
2015). As a responsible organization it is the responsibility of the company to look into
disharmony activities that have been going on in the company. There are political aspects to
in the organization which has affected the cultural environment of the company now it can be
said that with severe allegation of gender racism and pay gaps has affected the business
environment of the firm. The management inside the company has showed zero responsibility
in reaction to unethical activities which has in lieu replicated to the company. This shows that

management of the company has not be been upfront in facing severe allegation which
resulted in worsened the cultural condition of the firm. In an modern business organization
like BBC there is wide range of opportunity for the employers to perform police within the
organization to secure their future in the firm. This affects the employee productivity
because if the employee is skillful and intelligent he would not be able to counter the political
aspect of the organization and this will affect his positive output towards the company. The
political motive in an organization is to achieve power and this can really hinder the
workforce capability within the employee. The employee usage of political component
within a company might affect the culture of the company as well as the cultural value gets
diminished through the use of political values. It is to be said that political values and views
may differ from the cultural value of the firm which will mainly contradict and cause
problem in the way of establishing cultural peace within the organization.
Task 2
a) Explain what is meant by content and process theories of motivation:
Within an organization it is necessary to have proper kind of motivation practices so that the
employees can able to work perfectly and their systematic work progression can lead to the
productivity and profitability to the organization. The organization works with different types
of people, those who are associated with differ culture and background. Proper energy,
knowledge and the standard of working progression that help the organization move forward
create the systematic formation of the entire thing (Gawronski and Creighton, 2013).
Sustainable approach and the proper behaviour of people can able to connect for the better
approach of things. The specific needs of the organization create the logical foundation of
things and generate the organizational growth and development in such a way so that it can
motivate other people within the organization. When the employees stay motivated then they
work with better approach and drive the business for profitability. This content theory is
helpful for the motivation purposes and progressive phrase get maintained for the entire
organizational circumstances.
In the technique of process theories the process and many of the logical purposes will take so
that the employees can work properly and drive the business with a proper way. Directed and
the energized from need to maintain within the organization so that the employees can lead

them for the productivity purposes and gain a proper way in the progressive phrase of the
company (Abeysekera and Dawson, 2015). As the employees are unique in their way and can
diversify their energy and working perspectives so it is the responsibility of the management
that they can take out the best things from the entire thing. Different individuals have taken
out their implications of things by the help of several preferences and their different choices
and the accomplishments also get done by the help of that state. In that case the managers
need to understand the several procedures that how to keep motivated the employees and
bring some of the major changes within the organization (Wood et al. 2015).
Both the content theory and the process theory generate with the idea of expectancy and
reinforcement idea and the helpful application of several procedure. Other than that the equity
and the goal setting perspectives create the perfect aspirations for better connectivity of the
organizational environment with the employees.
b) Evaluate how these, along with other motivational techniques, may have
helped to improve the effectiveness in the teams within the BBC:
Within BBC the managerial prospect need to adjust in such a way so that it can deliver the
best approaches for the future assessment of things. Some of the best applicable approaches
generate the formed purposes so that the employees get to know all the information about the
requirement of the organization. It is essential for the organization that they connect with the
organization and can able to deliver them some of best circumstances so that it assist for the
formed all the purposes (Festré and Garrouste, 2015). The specific needs to organization
prerequisite to fulfil in such a way so that it can attempt for something extraordinary. The
individuals need to know the perspective of the organization and then work for the better
approaches and suggest for the further betterment (Csikszentmihalyi et al. 2014). In order to
satisfy the needs of the employees the reward procedure to them create that efficiency for the
entire thing. The motivational impact create the systematic work functioning and ensure
optimization of performance. After the process and content theories it is necessary for the
organization to deal with thee operant conditioning and it connect with the reinforcement of
the learning ability.
Working for the organization can create the organized version of things that and it needs to
serve the perspective of different motivational theories such as-
i) Maslow’s need hierarchy theory

ii) Herzberg’s motivation hygiene theory
iii) McClelland’s Need Theory
iv) McGregor’s Participation Theory

Need Theory adjust with the organization in a perfect way so that it can able to affect the
BCC purposes and generate the appropriate association of things and the employees get
motivated for the working purpose and it drive the entire organization in a proper way. This
theory of motivation deal with the personality of the employees and how they conceive
different things within the organization. Different need and culture create the background for
the entire thing that direct the working progression.
Need for achievement this process actually drive the standard and excel the working state
for better behaviour and create excellence for working capacity. The high need for
achievement generate the purpose for the organization so that it can moderate the
performance of the people.

relation in the organization and their desired get fulfilled in the various ways for the inclusion
of productivity.
c) How will improved levels of motivation within the BBC help to achieve
its organisation’s goals?
For the higher management of things it is necessary that the organization can motivate people
in a proper way and then go ahead for the final achievement of other prospects. The
organizational goal needs to achieve in such a way so that it can aspire for the higher state of
things and the employees also work for the better suggestion. Motivation for the workers and
the organizational statement for the entire assessment of things generate the methodical
purpose for the further growth and productivity (Gunnell et al. 2015). BCC when applied
