Introduction (1 Slide)
 Organizational Behaviour can be referred to the study of human
behaviour in the context of organization. Also, the organization
behaviour can be referred to the relation between the humans and the
organization along with organization in itself. The organizational
behaviour is a term used for the studying the behaviour of various
individuals in context of their organizational roles.
 The case study is based upon the plot of Thames Valley Building Society
which revolves around the working conditions of three Protagonist. The
First one is Mary Rogers who is the branch manager further the second
one is Tony Jackson who had worked in the organization on
Apprenticeship but left later as there were no permanent position and
the Third one is Jane Taylor who has been working since four years in
the organization and now has been promoted as assistant Branch
manager. The case study revolves around the issues in the
organizational behaviour that take place after Tony Jackson is hired in
the organization on a permanent position.

Main Part
Issue 1 (Example - Motivation)
 Motivation is a term that was derived from the key word, motive which
stands for the aim, needs, wants, desires that are developed within an
individual. The motivation tends to stimulate the individuals in order to
accomplish their goals.
 Motivation as an issue is discussed in the case study as well wherein
Jane Taylor was promoted from the job role of cashier to the job role of
Senior Branch Assistant. She was confused regarding the job role offer
of Senior Branch Assistant or it can be said that she was under
confident if she would be able to perform the tasks as per the
expectations. It can be clearly stated that Jane Taylor lacked motivation
in order to fulfil the tasks and responsibilities of the Senior branch
manager.

Theories (at least two theories for
each issue)
There are various theories in the context of motivation as an issue at the
organization. From the various theories, two have been discussed below-
Maslow Need Hierarchy Theory
Maslow has derived the needs of the humans which help in encompassing
the various basic necessities that are tangible along with the complex
needs of the individual, emotional needs and desires of the individual.
Abraham Maslow was a social psychologist who has depicted the individual
needs in form of a pyramid.

Theories
Alderfer's ERG Theory
Alderfer developed the motivational theory of Maslow on his own
terms . As per Alderfer's theory, he has specified theories in three
basic streams. The three basic theories of an individual are
Existence, Relatedness and Growth and hence the acronym of these
words stands for ERG. Alderfer states through his theory that if an
individual fails to meet his or her needs then in that case the
individual will make extra efforts for the needs of the lower
category.

Recommendation (Issue 1)
In order to solve the issues regarding motivation at the organization, the organization can look
upon various motivational theories that can help in increasing the motivational level of
employees at the workplace along with increasing their morale. The various recommendations
that can prove suitable in this regard are-
In order to motivate the employees at the workplace at the initial level, they can be offered a
higher pay as this will help them in fulfilling their basic financial needs.
Once the employees are satisfied with the financial incentives they focus upon non financial
incentives like healthy work environment, recognition, etc.

Issue 2
TEAM MANAGEMENT
There are various tasks that can not be performed alone by the individual. These tasks which
can not be performed alone require blended efforts of various individuals which have common
objectives and interests. The individuals who do not share common interests can not form a
particular team.
The issue of team management in context of case study can be depicted in few instances. At
Thames Valley Building society, when Ms Roger was on leave Jane used to divide the work
among the staff members of the organization whereas when the work came to be divided and
appointed to Jackson, at that moment he used to make sarcastic comments which resulted in a
negative atmosphere among the employees. These kind of reactions tend to decrease the team
efforts of the organization. In various situations, the lack of efforts from one employee can lead
to failure of the team to accomplish the goals.

There are various theories in context of team management. From those, two of the theories are explained below-
Belbin's Theory of Team Roles
Belbin has described various roles that every team needs to have. These basically comprises of 9 roles that are Resource
investigator, plant, shaper, coordinator, Monitor evaluator, Implementer, Team worker, completer finisher and
specialist. These roles are discussed below-

Theories
Tuckman model of team development
Tuckman has developed a model of team development wherein he has suggested 5 stages of
team building. The model starts with the time when the group meets until the group
deforms. The stages include forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning.

Recommendation(Issue 2)
It is very important for the organizations to deal with the issues in context of team building. In
order to deal with the issues regarding the team building and team management the
organization can perform various jobs such as-
The organization can host various events wherein the individuals can share a warm
environment together to create a bond among them in the organization.
The organization can host various co curricular activities in order to develop teams and
groups at the organizations to have a positive environment and positive conversations in
the organization.

Issue 3
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is a skill of an individual or a group that allows the individual in order to motivate,
guide and influence the individuals of an organization. Leadership is a process that involves
decision making in a very sound, effective and innovative manner. At times the decisions can
be difficult to generate in a n organization.
The issue of leadership can be witnessed in the case study as well. The issue in leadership
process has been recorded at Thames Valley Building Society wherein Jane Taylor as a Senior
business manager lacks leadership skills in order to guide and influence the employees to
perform a specific task at the organization. The instance happen when the individual appoints
task to Tony Jackson and after a while he shows lack of interest in performing the task that has
been appointed by the Senior business manager.

Behavioural theory of leadership
Behavioural theory states that the leader must focus upon the common behaviour of various
leaders around the world. There are various types of behaviour that a leader can indulge in
at the time of decision making in the organisation. In accordance with Behavioural theory,
there are three types of leaderships such as Autocratic, Democratic and laissez faire. These
types of leaderships are explained below-
 Autocratic
 Democratic
 Laissez faire

Theories
Functional theory of leadership
Functional theory of leadership tends to focus upon the task of leadership, that need to per formed by the
leader. The functional theory of leader emphasises upon the action areas that must be addressed by
the to prove themselves effective. This theory allows the leader to encourage themselves in order to
be successful in the role. The most influential functional theory of leadership is Action centred
Leadership developed by John Adair. As per the theory there are 8 functions of a leader. The
functions are discussed below-
 Defining the task
 Planning
 Briefing the team
 Controlling
 Evaluation
 Motivation
 Organising

Recommendation(Issue 3)
It is very important for an organization to avoid issues in context of leadership skills as this
may harm the image of the organization as well as it could decline the productivity of
the organization as well. In order to overcome the leadership issues at the
organisation, various steps can be taken by the management in order to brush the
leadership skills of the individual. The recommendations are-
 The organization can provide on the job training to the various individuals regarding
the enhancement of the leadership skills.
 The organization can motivate the individual in order to take initiatives for the
organizational task.
 In order to enhance the leadership skills, the individual must focus upon delegation
and discipline at the work place.
