INTRODUCTION Organisational behaviour can be stated as a concept in which group of people work together in order to attain a common goal(Adeniji, 2011). This includes people who have separate beliefs, values and cultures and company can use this for obtaining objectives and work effectively. Organisation which is taken in this assignment is Samsung which is a Korean company and was established in the year around 1938 by Lee Byung-chul. This report will highlight some points like effects of organisational culture, politics and power have a great influence on a individual and team behaviour and performance. Role of content and process theory of motivation and motivational techniques for attaining goals. Explanation of reasons that can make an effective team as opposed to an ineffective team is mentioned. Lastly, concepts and philosophies organisational behaviour within a company and as per business situations is included in this assignment. TASK 1 P1 Organisation's culture, politics and power and its influence on individual and team behaviour and performance a) Use of Handy's culture typology to identify culture in Samsung Culture, politics and power plays an important role in influencing behaviour of an individual and of those who are working as a team. If a company wants to understand the nature of a person and an organisation that it can be done by adopting Handy's cultural typology. Culture can be define as a set of ideas that are acquired by a person(Armache, 2012). Power:In this, power is given to a single person who regulates the entire task effectively. It is beneficial for those who are around the core person and are considered as the most influential person in an organisation. Drawback of this is that employees who are working at lower level have to dependent on superiors for their task. Task Culture:In this, biggest priority of company is to complete the task in a better manner. For this, it is important that firm hires eligible candidates who can help organisation in executing plan of action effectively. Person Culture:It is entirely a different concept in which an individual plays a important role as they majorly focus on attaining main objectives and aims that are related to work(Bolino and et. al., 2013). 1
Role culture:In an organisation, people are allotted with different kinds of roles and responsibilities that are to be performed. If a person leave his/her role in a company that it can have an impact on performance of a firm. In context with Samsung, they have adopted role culture so that workers can follow rules and regulations that are decided by the management of top level. Employees are growing and developing in a rapid speed because of which they are adopting the process of innovation (Burnard and Bhamra, 2011). b) Analysation of power, culture and politics along with its effect on Samsung Power culture and politics plays a crucial role in evaluating behaviour of a person. Environment that is present at workplace defines the nature which is going in a company. In context with Samsung, they havea separate department who helps management in doing decision making and policies. This shows that superiors and employees can give their views and thoughts before making any kind of strategy for their organisation. But it has some limitations as a person who has power can regulate business operations in his/ her manner which may not be agreed by some of the employees. Culture that is present in Samsung states how employees behave with other workers in a company. Thus, it is a sum up of different kinds of ideas, values and culture that are constituted by various people. Main objective of Samsung is to provide best quality products to its customers so that they can win loyalty for a longer period of time.Workers who are working in this organisation shares a great mutual understanding between employees because of which business is strengthening day by day. Therefore, dynamics and business environment is matched and they are gaining maximum benefits in speculated time frame(Coccia, 2014). Organisational politics in Samsung are creating some problems in maintaininga better understanding between workers as they are providing facilities who are paying for one facility. So, these workers feel like they are not fully appreciated for the contribution they are giving. As a result it is reducing in job performance can be seen, further it is prime responsibility of managers to make strategies and eliminate issues that act as a barrier in business operations. TASK 2 P2 Evaluation of content and process theories of motivation a) Definition of content and process theories In every company, manager of human resource department plays a crucial role in optimising theories and practices that can boost the morale of workers so that they can perform their task in a better manner(Collings, Scullion and Vaiman, 2011). Further, motivation theory can be classified into process that mainly focus on procedure of motivation and content theory helps them in identifying factors that can keep them motivated and all these are explained below: Content theories:In this theory, a person's behaviour is taken into consideration so that superiors can motivates them based on that; this will help them in working effectively. Therefore, it is crucial for companies to identify factors through which employees can be encouraged. Thus, it will help workers in performing their task effectively and with full enthusiasm. Maslow's Hierarchy of needs:This is the best motivational theory which is adopted by most of the organisation (Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, 2017). Encouragement is required if company wants to accomplish all its targets in speculated time frame. Stages of Maslow's Hierarchy theory are explained below: Physiological needs:This need constitute some of the basic requirements like food, house, clothes, education etc., if all these things are provided then they can entirely focus on evaluating steps through which they can attain their goals and objectives in given time frame. Thus, it is determined as prime factor of motivation(Fuchs and Edwards, 2012). Safety:In life, there is always a possibility of uncertainty of getting harmed. Social needs:An individual likes to be surrounded by people who motivates him/her for activities that are performed by them as it keep them boosted. Esteem needs:This need can be classified into two categories i.e. internally that is related with self respect and freedom and other one is externally which is related with status, society and recognition(Kaufmann and Frisby, 2013). Self actualisation needs:Every individual have some or the other kind of goalsfor which it is required that they acquire appropriate knowledge and information that can be utilised in future proceedings. It helps them in performing in a better manner and keeps them motivated for accomplishing the task. Herzberg Two Factor theory: This theory basically focus on two factors i.e. hygiene and motivational factor and to have a better understanding it has been explained below: Hygiene Factor:There are various factors through which employees can be motivated at workplace but it is only for shorter period of time. Thus, it doesn't give long term benefits but it must not be avoided by managers as this can have a great impact in future proceedings. Some of the factors that are included in this are company policies, quality supervision, personal life etc., Motivational Factor:Every person needs motivation if he/she wants to get success in life so, it is important that superiors includes some kinds of elements which can help them in doing the same. It will give them satisfaction in performing the same task with enthusiasm and in a kindly manner(Kazemipour and Mohd Amin, 2012). Further for doing so, it is required that an individual recognise and grab all the opportunities that are available to them. Some of the factor which are included in this are achievement, career advancement, personal growth etc., Process Theory:This is concerned with inspiring others in order to make them capable in performing the task in a rightly manner. For doing this, it is required that behaviour of individual is analysed so as to know ways by which they can be motivated. As in context with Samsung they are providing training programmes to its employees. Reinforcement Theory:This helps an organisation in knowing the favourable and unfavourable conditions that can have an affect on business operations.This helps them in accomplishing targets and achieving set goals and aims in speculated time frame. Further company make use of tools for reinforcement and punishment along with managing behaviour of a person as well. Expectancy Theory:Rewards and appraisal is important for company in order to keep them motivated. If they are rewarded according to their capabilities than they may tend to work in an efficient manner. For example: Samsung is giving free handset to its employees who are paying some in the process of telecommunication. Therefore, both the theories are used by Samsung company in order to motivates its employees so that they can perform their task effectively. Workers plays an important role and helps company in realising its dreams and make them come true in a better manner. In context with Samsung, they are giving equal opportunities to all its workers as company is majorly focussing on needs and wants of employees. Samsung is providing bonuses in their salaries that vary from 3 to 5 percent along with this, they are giving rewards to its staff members. For example: workers who are working in Samsung Telecommunicationare offered with free company handset with which they can communicate with anybody around the world. This is working as a motivator agent for the organisation, due to which employees responsibility are increased. Through education and development programmes company is motivating its employees to know about opportunities that are present in the environment and market area. For making this team eligible candidates are selected from various departments and with expert's advice as well.
