Assessment One:
1. Review of the case study:
A review of the case study shows that MacVille was an Australia which marketed and
repaired espresso coffee machines. The firm experience and workplace health and safety issue
which Gary, the senior most employee in the country experienced a lower back pain while
repairing a machine. The doctor suggested Gary to rest for four days for the pain to reside and
the management of the company approved it. This shows that as far as the employee
management policies of MacVille was employee centric. A review of the case study revealed
that though MacVille had an employee centric, its compliance with workplace health and safety
laws was not satisfactory. This was evident from the several facts, which surfaced upon probe
conducted by the senior manager. First, the workbench, which the mechanics of the company
used to get access to the machines, were very high which prevented the repairing mechanics to
get access to the machines easily. Secondly, as per the standard rules of the company, two
people were supposed to lift the machine parts. However, in practice only one person had to lift
the machine parts due to lack of sufficient employees, especially when the customer footfall was
high. Thirdly, the tools, which the employees used to repair the machines, were stored under the
bench, which inhibited easy access of the mechanics to the tools. The employees in order to get
access to the tools had to bend or slouch which gave opportunities to back injuries. Fourthly, the
seats of the repair vans in which the employees travelled from factories to work sites were not
positioned comfortably. The mechanics during travelling to the sites often compelled to seat in
positions which had negative impacts on the back muscles, thus, leaving them strained. The
review can finally be closed by pointing out that MacVille had strong human resource

required restructuring.

Dear Sir/Madam,
This is in respect to the WHS risks which are preavailing in M/s MacVille. The letter endeavors
to draw your kind attention to the fact M/s MacVille has a notably strong human resource
management but a weak WHS risk management plan. This was evident from the incidence in
which Mr Gary King, who is the senior most employee and a highly experienced espresso
machine specialist, experienced a sharp pain in the lower back. The doctor prescribed rest to him
for four days and the same received approval from the company as well, which points out to the
commendable HRM policies of MacVille. However, it must also be pointed out that WHR risks
management strategies of the company are below expectations. Firstly, the workbenches in the
workshop are extremely high and pose risks to the safety of the employees. The employees may
fall from the high benches thus injuring themselves badly. Secondly, as per the machine lifting
policies of the company, two people are supposed to move the espresso machines, as heavy as 50
kilogrammes each. However, in practice often a single employee has to move the machines,
which exposed him to chances of muscle injuries. Thirdly, the tools, which the mechanics use to
repair the machines, are placed under the high benches, which once attracts muscle injuries of
the mechanics. Fourthly, the seats of the repair vans in which the mechanics commuted to the
