Task 1
Analysis of the organizational culture (P1)
Gelfand et al. (2017. p.514) has stated that the organizational culture of BBC can be examined
on the basis five dimensional values. It has been found that the corporation of BBC has low
power distance. There is no planning in their work events and therefore, the time management
was tough for the employees. BBC has undergone various changes and this made difficulties for
the staffs as they were not made aware of the changes that took place in the organization. Smith
has reviewed that many interviews were held on the culture of BBC. Victims at BBC
expressed that there was a sexual conduct at their culture by the previous entertainer where
victims were physically harassed at BBC. Females used to get obsessed and sexually harassed.
Therefore, this created a fear and nervousness in the atmosphere of BBC. This happened as there
unity among the staffs and there is lack of security in the work premises.

According to Handy’s cultural model, it has been found that organizational culture is categorized
into four parts that are culture of power, culture of role, culture of task and culture of support.
Power of culture helps to motivate the employees to make effective decision on their own. The
role culture enhanced the responsibilities of every department in the organization. Task culture is
another essential component that enables the team to complete a particular task effectively and
support culture helps to inspire the staffs to in the organization. It has been found that if the
organization uses this model then the power and political culture will be enhanced. This model
will help to understand the factors that will make comfortable for the staffs to work in the
organization. This model will help to enhance the work system by improving the security for
female workers within the venture.
Figure 1: Charles Handy’s aspects of organizational culture
(Source: Lindebaum and Jordan, 2014, p.898)
In the opinion of Hogg and Terry, (2014, p.254), there must be unity among the staffs in the
organization as this will help them to fought with any unexpected situation. Smith has expressed
that if the staffs conveyed the failures and the situations at time then the sinner would not be able
to cross the limit. It has been found that this scenario happened due to the lack adequate proofs
and investigation. The culture of BBC needs to develop a strong bond among the team and
individual employees.

Vasu et al. (2017, p.26) have stated that in the business world of BBC, power, politics and social
are the big issues that control the expansion and growth of the organization. It helps to create the
stability and success of the organization. The effect of power depends on if the staffs develop
positive and negative power to enhance other co-workers in the venture. If the staffs use positive
power then this will increase the productivity of BBC. The higher authority of BBC should give
power to the employees to make decision. They must be giving rewards based on their
performance at work. It has been found that the staffs at BBC do not follow the policies and
procedure and due to this, it has affected in the growth of the organization. The supervisors
should implement strict rules so that they follow the regulations in order to maintain the policies
that will help in the productivity (Nicklin and Spector, 2013, p.1113). The employees must learn
to deal the political aspects of the organization.
Task 2
Motivating team to accomplish goals (P2)
Morgeson et al. (2013, p.805) have commented that different types of motivational theories help
to motivate the employees in the workplace. The managers should involve the motivating factors
such as benefits and salary increment of the employees of BBC so that they get motivated to
work with the organization. The organization needs to work on the hygiene and the motivating
factors in order to develop productive employees. The HRM of BBC must look at the needs of
the workers such as physiological and safety needs. The administration of BBC should provide
adaptable working shifts so that the female workers do not face any problem and can spend time
with their families. According to Hawthorne effects, if the managers of the organization control
and observe the performance of the employees then they will work hard in order to improve the
performance. According to Shin et al. (2017, p.1211), the staffs should be given feedback so that
they can know about their performance status. The organization should show them that they care
for the employees, as this will also motivate them to work sincerely.
It has been seen that the staffs at BBC work for longer hours as they expect rise in their pay.
However, the expectancy theory says that the employees have certain expectation from the
organization and therefore the organization should take care of this. The employees will get

motivated if they came to know that there are different awards if they work hard for the
organization. The company can set a target and they can offer rewards if the employees are able
to hit those targets that has been set (Spector and Meier, 2014, p.1109). BBC can adopt
democratic style where in all the employees have the authority to present their views in the decision
making process. This is yet another way of facilitating creativity and innovation at the workplace. It has
been observed that leader of BBC has been satiating the employees by providing them with authorities
and responsibilities in decision making process. Application of Maslow motivation theory is also essential
to refer as it allows to meet the key needs of employees in order to have sustainability. By having an
effective consideration of physiological, safety, social, esteem and self-actualization needs the issues can
be resolved properly. In every organization the team and individual have need for their safety during the
work as well in personal life. With an assistance of this, motivation can be promoted among members

that they can get satisfaction. All the employees must get respect, as this will make them feel as
the essential part of the organization. The workers at BBC will work according to the instructions
of their supervisor if their requirements are met by the organization. It has been found that

communicate using different technologies and conferencing through online mode. They do not
need much instruction from the supervisor as the entire process held on online mode. The virtual
teams of BBC have good communication skills and the venture has indulged the use of
technology in their organization.
Project team: Project team of BBC helps to assist the programs and the objectives of the
projects. They provide documentation of the project and information about the programs. They
organize every task in a systematic way and advise the project manager. They are responsible for
checking all the risks that may affect the result of the projects and change the plan accordingly.
Quality team: Quality teams should understand the quality management and do the tasks in an
effective way. They are responsible for controlling the projects and ensure that the project will
give a quality result. The role of this team in BBC is to check whether the news that is going to
deliver in the channels is quality based or not.
Wayne et al. (2013, p.606) have stated that teams play a vital role in every organization. It has
been found that BBC needs to improve the teamwork in order to increase the workflow in the
venture. Every employee is dependent on one another for accomplishing their objectives and no
one can work alone in the organization. It has been observed that the results of working in a team
at BBC are far better than the employees working as an individual. In addition, the jobs are
accomplished faster when the employees work in a team. Teamwork enhances the work
relationship between the employees and a strong bond is created between them that help in the
growth of the enterprise.

Chen et al. (2016, p.1082) have mentioned that teams are arranged in the organization for
developing the workforce. Tuckman has discovered four stages of team development that has
been implemented in BBC. The various stages are forming, storming, performing and norming.
Another stage that has developed later by Turkman for enhancing the purpose and the goal of the
organization is the adjourning stage.
Forming: This stage helps to develop the team and is the first stage that helps in the formation.
This stage helps to identify the response of the group members.
Storming: This stage comes after the formation of the group to determine whether there is any
issue or conflicts among the team members. It helps to understand the tasks and communicate
with the group members.

Norming: This is the third stage of team given by Turkman and followed by BBC to talents and
skills of the employees for accomplishing the specific task. The members in this stage become
flexible and trust each other while working together in groups.
Performing: This is the last stage that helps to identify the productivity of the team members.
The group members are supportive to each other and help them whenever needed. Secchi (2015,
p.37) has mentioned that the goal of the stage is to accomplish the mission and understand the
purpose of the task.

BBC should focus on the team development of the enterprise in order to resolve all the problems
related to conflicts and other issues. Teamwork will help to boost the performance of the team at
BBC. It improves the projects that involve the team contribution. In the opinion of Allen et al.
(2017, p.394), the successful completion of the team development will help the employees to
better understand each other’s strength, weakness and limitation to complete the group project.
This will enhance the friendly atmosphere in the enterprise and therefore the staffs will feel

Task 4
Organizational concepts and theories to improve the productivity and
performance of the team (P4)
Hoch and Kozlowski (2014, p.390) have stated that by applying the path-goal theory, the team
performance will be enhanced to accomplish the group project goals. The leaders to understand
the need of the team use this theory. According to this theory, the leader should be supportive in
nature in order to give the best suggestion and direction to motivate them for achieving the goal.
Therefore, the leaders of BBC can use this theory to understand the behaviour of the employees
to work for the specified project because every members of the task should equally contribute in
the task. Team leaders need to be supportive and directive to give the suitable suggestion to the
team members. The aim of the team leader is to involve every member of the task to take part
equally to achieve the goal. The four path-goal of the leader at BBC are briefly stated below:
Directive: The leaders of BBC direct the team members about the task and tell the most effective
way to precede the task so that they get the quick results. The role of the leader is to assist how to
complete the task and give proper suggestion to the team members.
Supportive: It has been found that the leaders of BBC are supportive in nature as they show
concern to the employees by behaving friendly and softly with the team members. This nature
indulged by the leaders help to develop strong bond with the team members.
Participative: The leaders influence the team members of BBC to take part in the group project.
The objectives of the teams are quickly accomplished if the team members are participative in
nature.
Achievement: The leader should arrange the project in such so that it is easily achievable. The
goals set by the leaders must be able to meet the expectations. DiPaola and Tschannen (2014,
p.424) have mentioned that it is important to set the goal in such a way that it is achieved in a
most productive way.
