Abstract
The purpose of the report is to evalute the
effectiveness of communication in an
organization.
In this report, discussion about 4 major
types of organizational communication
namely, formal, interpersonal, sustainable and
crisis communication will be performed.
Finally recommendation in order to
incorporate effective communication in
business will be provided in this poster.
Introduction
Communication in an
organization posses the potential
to enhance its internal and
external relationship.
Effective formal communication
enhances the productivity as well
as performance of an
organization.
Not only that, social
communication of an organization
enhances its sustainability as well
as reputation in the society.
Finally crisis communication
posses the potential to develop
communication strategies in order
to protect the reputation of the
organization in a crisis.
Topic 1: Interpersonal communication
Interpersonal communication can be defined as the process by
which appropriate exchange of information ad feelings takes place
between the employees as well as the management takes place.
Majority of interpersonal communication that takes place in an
organization is through face to face communication (Berger2014).
However, interpersonal communication can also takes place through
digital communication channel like intranet in the workplace or
social media platforms or through telephonic conversation.
Major advantages of interpersonal as well as grapevine
communication include gathering of detailed information and better
understanding of a particular issue.
Another major advantage of effective communication includes
better bondage between the employees as well as effective
relationship between the management and thee stakeholders which
in turn enhances the work environment of the organization (Carsten
and Uhl-Bien 2015).
Effective communication between the consumers and the
management enhances consumer base as well as consumer loyalty.
However, several disadvantage of the mentioned system are also
there. For instance, grapevine communication often lead rumor in
the organization that may lead too development of conflicts.
Topic 3: Sustainability communication
Sustainable communication is defined as the process of
establishing sustainability in the society as well as in the
workplace with the mean of both verbal as well as non verbal
communication skills.
Sustainable communication is considered to be a major part of
Corporate Social Responsibility. CSR is defined as a broad term
which is used to describe an organization’s effort in order to
enhance the society.
Effective CRS communication possesses several benefits that
includes:
better brand recognition
positive business reputation (DeKay 2012)
increased sales and customer loyalty
operational costs savings
better financial performance
greater ability to attract talent and retain staff
organizational growth
easier access to capital
Topic 2: Establishing and maintaining formal
communication
Formal communication is defined as interchange of
information officially.
Formal communication can be differentiated into internal as
well as external communication.
The major communication tools used for internal
communication includes letters, instant messages, reports,
speeches, news releases, websites, advertising and executive
blocks (Daniel and EZE 2016).
several virtual communication channels like mobile
technology, video conferencing, electron In order to make the
task of manager’s easier, communication channels are grouped
into three chief groups namely formal and informal channels.
In order to maintain downward communication the
communication channels used are memos, reports or executive
blogs
The major communication channel used during upward
communication includes letters, email and video conferences
(Berger2014).
Almost all the channels are used for conducting horizontal
communication.
Topic 4: Crisis Communication
Crisis communication is defined s a special wing which deals
with the reputation of the organization.
It is an initiative that aims to protect the reputation of a
company and maintain its public image
The types of crisis for which effective communication is need
involves
Natural disaster.
Technological crises.
Confrontation.
Malevolence.
Organizational Misdeeds.
Workplace Violence.
Rumors.
Terrorist attacks/man-made disasters.
Crisis communication helps the management to protect as
well as recover the reputation of the company and maintain its
consumer loyalty as well as brand equity (Erozkan 2013).
Due to the emergence of technology, social media and mobile
technology plays a major role in enhancing the communication
an eradicate the crisis faced by the organization
Conclusion
Communication plays a major role in enhancing as well as maintaining
the revenue of a company
While interpersonal communication enhances the bondage between
the employees and consumers, formal communication enhances
circulation of vital information.
Sustainability as well as crisis communication posses the potential to
enhance the reputation and goodwill of the company
Recommendation
The management must invest of effective communication channels
like intranet in order to enhance both formal as well as informal
communication between the employees (Daly and Wiemann 2013).
Social media platforms can be used in order to effectively
communicate with the consumers and understand their needs.
Business owners should keep employees informed about the general
operations of the business and company goals.
