1ORGANIZATIONAL COMPLIANCEExecutive Summary (refer to appendix)The current report discusses the financial and regulatory impact of organizationalcompliance with professional standards. The enhancement in performance of the healthcarestaff could be brought about by implementing sufficient training programs. Some of thesetraining programs help the workforce in being industry ready along with improving thequality of care. As commented by Brubakk, Vist, Bukholm, Barach & Tjomsland (2015), awell trained healthcare staff also means that specialized care services to the patients admittedwithin the hospital could be delivered. A workforce which is compliant with the industrystandards helps in ensuring that the safety standards are met and prevents the occurrence oflegal breaches.The implementation of a performance measure metrics plays a pivotal role in themaintenance of the professional standards. Some of these have been described with referenceto financial regulations. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has taken performance evaluation inhealthcare as one of the major objectives of professional standards maintenance. Some of thekey areas focused upon as per the current regulation are- diabetes, depression, pain control inadvanced cancer stages. The 100,000 lives campaign was implemented in the year 2005 witha vision to reduce the mortality rates in hospitals. The protecting 5 million lives from harmwere implemented with a view to reduce the chances of occurrence of central line-associatedbloodstream infection in hospitals (Anthony, Appari & Johnson, 2014). As suggested from figures and stats the cost of medical negligence in US is around$55.6 billion a year, which accounts to 2.4% of the nation’s entire healthcare expenditure(Flodgren, Gonçalves‐Bradley & Pomey, 2016). In this respect, abiding by the healthcareregulations can help in ensuring effective patient safety and care. Some of the policies whichcould be mentioned over here are –Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, 2010, Health

2ORGANIZATIONAL COMPLIANCEInsurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) etc. Therefore, compliance with thesemeasures can help in regulating the excess charges generated on annual healthcare due tomedical negligence (Brubakk et al., 2015).In this respect, some of the changes which could be implemented for facilitation incompliance monitoring within my current healthcare have been discussed over here. Thiscould be done by installing an electronic database in the current healthcare setup, where theperformance charts of each and every healthcare staff is recorded and evaluated over time. Ascommented by Duncan, Thorne & Rodney (2015), a well motivated staff had less turnoverrates compared to less engaged staff.In this respect, the compliance rates with professional working standards of theDaffodils hospital could be compared with the overall compliance rates of the US basedhospitals. With the emergence for antibiotic resistant organisms hand hygiene had become ofutmost importance. An overall compliance rate of 81% has been achieved for hand hygienefor the US based hospitals. The internal survey conducted in the Daffodils hospital combiningthe ICU and the non-ICUs received a score of 56%, which is relatively low compared tooverall state standards. High rates of readmission due to post operative secondary infectionswere observed for the daffodils hospital. Therefore, following up of the professionalstandards would help in ensuring that the hygiene standards are maintained within theperioperative care. As commented by Greenfield et al. (2016), this prevents the unnecessaryadmissions and the controls the additional healthcare costs.Hand hygiene is one of the most important factors for the prevention of infectionswithin an acute healthcare setup. In this respect, the methods which are most commonly usedby the Daffodils hospital are – direct observation, self reporting by healthcare workers,calculation based upon hand hygiene product usage.
