Oil Spills
Exxon oil Spill
The incident had taken place in the year 1989. The incident involved the spillage of
around 10.8 million gallons of crude oil in to the sea around Alaska’s Prince William Sound. The
oil was spilled when the oil carrier, Exxon Valdez, had hit the Bligh Reef a day after it had
started its journey from Alyeska Pipeline with 53 million gallons of crude oil (Gill, Ritchie &

The incident involved the sinking of the rig and the unrestricted oil discharge into the sea waters

of crude oil into the sea for over 87 days (Lauritsen et al., 2017).
