INTRODUCTION
Overtraining is an activity that is
frequently engaged in by athletes in
order to enhance their performance on
the field (Kreger, 2016).
Overtraining involves not only engaging
in rigorous physical exercise but also
taking injections and artificial aid to
boost performance on the field, which at
times can even imply the consumption
of drugs that are not prescribed or
illegal (Saw et al., 2016).

UNDERSTANDING WHY
ATHLETES OVER TRAIN
It is clear from reading the case study
that has been provided, that athletes
train firstly out of a feeling of
compulsion.
Athletes are filled with the desire to be
the best that they can be on the field,
and to live up to this desire even when
their health or ordinary potential will not
allow it, leads athletes to engage in over
training activities and exercises to
improve performance (Saw et al., 2016).

UNDERSTANDING WHY
ATHLETES OVER TRAIN
What compels athletes to over train also
is the pressure that they face from peer
groups on the personal and professional
front.
It is evident from reading the case study
that has been provided that coaches
and trainers have a lot of expectations
from players.

expectations alone, players push
themselves beyond breaking limit and
