Piaget’s theory of cognitive development that explains the learning processes in a child is also useful in adults. The concepts of metacognition and reflexivity can be applied through the constructivist theory in the learning approaches.
3LEARNING THEORIES Answer 1: According to the case study, Bill is accomplished in his task of repairing lawn mowers however; the introduction of the new computer based monitoring system has proved to be a difficulty in his job. Various web seminars and online training is being conducted however, Bill is unable to take his time off and neither can he afford to travel. Therefore, he should make a learning plan that would enable him to gain new knowledge. He should measure and determine the necessary materials that he needs to study. He should analyse and set achievable goals. Since he cannot travel for the seminars, he should try to take his time off for learning through online training. A learning objective is a statement where the person expresses what he would be able to learn from the learning event. Terminal learning objective is specific. Bill’s terminal learning objective would be that he would learn the new computer based monitoring systems and balance his time between his present work and the learning web seminars. Answer 2: Self-motivation is the ability to encourage oneself to progress towards a goal even if it seems to be challenging. According to the present study, Bill wants to learn the new computer based learning operative systems however; he cannot travel nor can he take his time off. Various kinds of self-motivation techniques can prove to be fruitful for achieving a goal. Bill seems to have the feeling of autonomy, mastery and stability. He wants to be able to handle the new monitoring system on his own, as he cannot travel to attend the seminars. He wants to be able to have mastery on the new system and stability to have a secure future.
4LEARNING THEORIES Learning does not only involve the cognitive functioning of the brain, it also involves the elements of the affective domain of learning. It involves all the feelings, emotions, attitudes and motivation (Green & Batool, 2017). Bill can apply the elements of affective domain in this learning project that involve receiving, responding, valuing, organizing and characterizing of the material. Receiving includes paying attention to the ideas and responding involves participating in the process of learning actively. Valuing includes the ability to understand the value of the idea, organizing involves putting together the values and ideas to create a personalized value system and characterizing involves the acting according to the values that has been internalized. Answer 3: Constructivist theory says that people build their knowledge or construct their knowledge based on the foundations of previous learning. (Bada & Olusegun, 2015). When people learn something new, they base their knowledge with the previous experiences, may be they replace the old information with the new ones or they just add them to the newly learnt material. Metacognition refers to self-regulation, self-monitoring and self-awareness. It includes the content knowledge, which requires understanding of one’s own capabilities, task or procedural knowledge, which is the way one perceives the task, the difficulty, the length, the type and the content of the task (Thompson & Johnson, 2014). Reflexivity refers to the recognition of the forces of socialization by the agent (Archer, 2017). As Bill has a lot of experience in repairing lawn mowers, however he needs to learn the new computer monitoring system. He can use the new knowledge to add on to the existing knowledge. Piaget in his cognitive theory had proposed the concepts of assimilation and accommodation (Mcleod, 2018). Assimilation is gathering of new information in the existing pool of knowledge while accommodation is the modification of the new knowledge to fit into

Answer 4: The central idea of the constructivist theory is that knowledge is constructed and not innate. People construct new ideas and gather knowledge from outside sources to increase their knowledge and learn something new. Bill can apply certain characteristics of the constructivist theory in improving his learning plan. Firstly, activating of previous knowledge to engage emotionally and cognitive with the learning plan. He would be able to retain knowledge more effectively as new learning when paired with existing knowledge is retained better; both new and previous knowledge can exist together at the same time (Stanny, 2020). Secondly, Bill can create new learning activities to bridge the gap between his previous knowledge of repairing lawn mowers and the new demands of the computer based monitoring system. Thirdly, Bill should apply new learning techniques to get his online training sessions, as he cannot afford to travel to get the training. Lastly, Bill should send a feedback regarding the knowledge that he gained through the assignment. Bill can use these above-mentioned techniques in order to gain and improve his information on the new computer based learning systems. He can use the manual for the new manufacturing services for acquiring more familiarity with the new systems.
