This is an individual assignment and it is due in Week 6 or 7 (see the
course schedule for the specific due date). Value = 15% of your final
grade.
The negotiation teams have decided what articles will be negotiated, and each
team member has been assigned an article that they will be responsible for. The
purpose of this assignment is twofold. First, you must demonstrate that you
understand the rights that the current language provides with respect to your
article. Second, you must collect relevant data that can be used to determine what
changes could be made to the language. Data collection is critical to successful
negotiations. It provides the negotiators with information to support their demands.
Interpretation of Article:
In this section you need to demonstrate your understanding of the article using a
question and answer format. You will pose questions that employees may ask
about the article, and then you will provide the answer to that question. Your
answers should be written so that someone with a high school education could
understand the answer. Just paraphrasing the clauses will not help employees to
understand the language and will not earn you marks on this element of the
assignment. Make sure that you have addressed all the key rights provided under
this article in your questions and answers.
Research:
As we discussed in class, your research should include three key areas:
1. Legislation – are there legislative requirements that must be considered with
respect to this language?
2. Economic context – what did you learn in Part A that might impact on your
article?
3. Competition – what are other companies doing with respect to this language?
This assignment should contain the information, statistics, etc. you will use to
identify changes to the article in the next assignment. Also, you will use this
information during the negotiations to convince the other team your position is
justified, and they must make concessions. All research must be cited.
The Fine Print:
1. All research must be cited.
2. Goal - 5 pages (this will vary based on the complexity of the article), single
spaced, and font size at least 11.
3. Charts and diagrams can be included as appendices (these don’t count
towards the page limit). It’s your responsibility to interpret the meaning of all
data submitted in this assignment. If you don’t tell me what you think the
charts and diagrams mean in the body of this assignment, you will not earn
any grades for including them in the appendix.

Yes it is possible for employees to apply
for a leave of absence in the event that
they fall ill or become consumed with an
illness, regardless of whether this is a
sickness of a minimal or prolonged
duration. Employees have the right to
take leave of absence if they are
physically unfit to come to work (Vosko
et al., 2016)
For how long is it that a leave of
absence can be taken? Can a leave of
absence be granted for an indefinite
period of time? If so, then what is the
cap on leave of absence
The leave of absence is something that
can be applied for, for a period of two to
three weeks at the most and a written
application will have to be submitted
with the employer in order to be entitled
to such leave. Employees who require
leave of absence for longer than two
weeks need to inform their employers

employees of all gender? Are there any
discrepancies when it comes to granting

that can be availed by employees of

employees who belong to the third
gender will be in a position to apply for
leave of absence (Ibid)
Does the granting of maternity leave fall
within the purview of Leave of Absence?
If so, what are the terms and conditions
that need to be met when applying for
such leave?
The granting of maternity leave is
something that falls with the purview of
leave of absence. Employees who are in
need of maternity leave will have to
follow the guidelines under the leave of
absence of scheme to apply for leave
and to be granted the same (Ibid)
What is absence of leave? The absence of leave is the right of an
employee to take leave from an
organization, while being on the payroll
of the same, for a certain period of time,
for personal reasons. The absence of
leave if approved of by the organization,
gives the employee of the organization
the right to take a break from the
organization and enjoy a time of leisure
while being compensated by the
organization for the same. Employees
are entitled to only a fixed number of
leaves in a year (Ibid)
Who can apply for an absence of leave? Any employee who is recruited by an
organization and is considered to be a
tenured employee of the organization is
a person who can apply for a leave of
absence (Ibid)
