Create a scope management plan for the development of the Pedal Power Expansion Project. Also, create an implementation plan, change control procedures, schedule/timeline for works and activities, measurable outcomes and an explanation of how the outcomes will be measured.

Assessment Overview
These assessment tasks will assess the student’s skills and knowledge required to manage
project scope. The Assessment is divided into three (3) Assessment Tasks to assess the
student’s ability to understand the theoretical and then practical skills in managing a
project’s scope.
General Instructions
 You are required to answer all questions within each Assessment Task and be
assessed as “Satisfactory” in each to gain competency BSBPMG530 Manage project
scope
 Submit the completed Assessment Tasks to your Trainer & Assessor through
MOODLE.
There are three assessment tasks for this unit:

 Task A – Questioning
 Task 2 ‒ Practical: Project
 Task 3 ‒ Written
Before you commence your Assessment, ensure that you have good knowledge
of the subject, have thoroughly read your Learner Resource, and clearly
understand the Assessment requirements and the expectations of the Assessor.
You may be required to demonstrate knowledge and skills which Assessor may
need to observe. If so, an Observation sheet is supplied which will allow the
knowledge or skill to be verified by your Assessor.
Explanations are given for each Task. If you have any questions, consult with
your Assessor. The assessment tasks may be answered using your business, the
simulated business or a mixture of both as instructed by your Assessor.

to implement and manage a project’s scope. Refer to your learning resources to inform

Assessment Task 2 – Project
Using the Pedal Power case study, identify the potential issues that could occur when
managing the scope of the project. You are required to create a draft project
authorisation procedure document, gain approval for the procedure and then document a
Simulated Workplace Scenario with the client. In the process, you gain consensus to start
the project and outline the schedule of tasks.
Scenario 1
After a successful time heading up the rectification of a number of major problems with
OzMarket Consulting’s major client, management have finally discovered your potential.
Your direct manager, Robert, has approached you and advised you of your promotion to a
newly created position, a roving project manager. From now on, you are the one they will
rely on. You will be sent in when things aren’t right and won’t come out till they are fixed.
OzMarket has sent you to Pedal Power, a small local gym that up until now has focused on
bike related fitness programs. They now want to widen the services and equipment on offer
to their clients, but aren’t sure what services to include. The management team for Pedal
Power is divided over:
a) Treadmills
b) Elliptical trainers
c) Stair climbers
d) Hula hoops
e) Exercise classes
f) Expansion of the premises
g) All of the above
The management of Pedal Power is unusual in that all five members of the management
team have equal say, rights and power within the business and all five of them are going to
be taking an active role in the development project. The members of the team are Annalise,

Anton, Harold, James and Jessie. When you watch them, you realise they bicker and argue
quite a lot, but seem able to come to reasonable decisions if given the chance to have their
say about everything.
Task 1
Identify the potential problems that may be encountered when managing the scope of this
project (don’t forget the normal everyday problems that can occur on projects).
Once identified, create a short report that you will send to Robert that outlines how these
potential problems could impact the project.
There are different problems which management of pedal power is facing while focusing
upon introducing new equipment’s in the gym. Some of the problems are mentioned below:
Management of different gym equipment: When do equipment’s were less, it was easy to
maintain the premises. As there are increase in number of equipment’s, it is not easy to
manage them effectively.
Conflicts among staff members: In pedal power, there are Different areas where conflict
occurs. It is important for the project manager to take care and focus upon initiating start
there are less conflicts and fights among team members.
Increase in responsibilities: as the gym is expanded, there are more responsible Which
have to be performed in gym premises.

Scenario 2
You go looking for a project authorisation template on the OzMarket Intranet but cannot
find one. You send a quick email to Robert asking about its whereabouts and are surprised
when you get the following response, “Hmmm, haven’t been asked about them for a while.
I don’t think we have one. Could you create one for me?”
Task 2
Create a draft project authorisation procedure.
The new project focuses upon enhancement in a small local gym. This gym was having
bike related fitness programmes. Now it is being expanded. It will include elliptical trainers,
treadmills, hula hoops, stair climbers and expansion of premises and exercise classes. There
is requirement of properly managing all these activities under the initiated budget.
Remember to use industry appropriate language and formatting.

Scenario 3
Getting this project successfully underway is going to require a collaborative miracle.
Especially with the people you have just met. Good negotiation with the various board
members is going to be crucial. Having all of them able to influence and input into the
project may very well lead to major difficulties, particularly as they aren’t sure of the
project goals and deliverables.
What they have decided are the services and equipment they will be widening. They have
chosen “All of the above” (from Scenario 1).
Task 3 – Simulated Workplace Scenario (Trainer to use the observation sheet)
This activity should be done through a verbal interaction to ensure meeting of oral
communication outcomes from the foundation skills.
Your Trainer & Assessor will play the role of 3 of the board members: Annalise, James and
Jessie. Meet with each one individually and during the meetings, negotiate and agree on:
a) Project goals, objectives and boundaries (e.g. Communication, Financial)
b) Measurable project outcomes (deliverables), outputs and benefits
c) Acceptance and understanding of the project outcomes (deliverables)
Once the negotiations are completed, you will need to document all outcomes

The project goal is to maximise the customer satisfaction. There is increment of premises
off gym area. Financial analysis is conducted in order to manage the completion of work in
the given money. The measurable project outcome means the level of satisfaction which is
experienced by customers in the new gym.
Scenario 4
You’ve been working with the management of Pedal Power to determine project
governance roles and responsibilities. It has been decided that:

Annalise will be the client-project team liaison and will manage communication between
the other board members of Pedal Power and the project team and attend the project
meetings.
Harold will have final authority and control of the budget and is the person to give final
approval to all requests.
The other three members (Anton, James and Jessie) of the Pedal Power team are not
available to assist the project team at this time, but will attend project meetings as time and
schedules allow.
Task 4
Create a letter for the files that outlines the positions and delegates from Pedal Power.
(Letter will need to be written using formal language, Australian Grammar and
punctuation). Remind the Pedal Power board that deviations from these negotiated roles
could impact the management of the project.
Develop a formal process that will apply when changes (Change control Procedure)
are to be made and include this in the letter so all the board members are aware of it.

It is to inform all the board members that the decision for new gym equipments and
enhancing the premises is very beneficial for the company. On the other hand, there is
requirement of focusing upon communicational channel of the company as there are very
loopholes found in them. There are several staff members who are not performing their job
roles properly. Communication is the key factor for any successful project and in this Jim,
people are not aware about their duties and job roles which they have to perform in order to
have successful projects. That is why it is requested from you to focus upon this issue and
resolve it as soon as possible.
Scenario 5
After much discussion, the Pedal Power team have decided to:

a) Expand the premises with a large addition to the back of the premises
b) Purchase and install all suggested equipment
c) Create a schedule of classes and employ staff to run the classes
Task 5
Using these three goals, create an outline and schedule of tasks and activities that will need
to be completed. (HINT: Use a Work Breakdown Structure where possible)
Once you have completed the outline, create a request for authorisation to expend money
and resources to get the project started.
Add the outline and schedule of tasks and request for authorisation to the portfolio.
Finally, after discussing with the management about the new project, there are three
activities which have to be initiated in the gym which includes expanding premises with
addition to back off the premises. There will be purchasing and installing of various
equipment’s of gyms. Proper schedule will be prepared for the training classes and staff
will be hired for this.

Assessment Task 3 – Written Tasks
You are required to create a scope management plan for Pedal Power. In the process, you
create documentation for the implementation plan and change control procedures and create
a project schedule with measurable outcomes. Document any changes to the scope
management plan as the project is underway and complete an end of project report
documenting the outcomes of the project’s scope management plan.
Scenario 1:
All your hard work negotiating with the board of Pedal Power has paid off and now you and
the Pedal Power team are ready to start the redevelopment project. All you need to do is
establish the documentation and timelines to ensure everything is going to be achieved on
time and on budget.
Annalise comes into the project office and asks “Do we have anything written down about
the scope and boundaries of the project?”
You tell her you’re currently working on the scope management plan and will get a copy to
her as soon as it is completed.

Using the information above and from the previous activities, create a scope management
plan for the development of the Pedal Power Expansion Project. You could use below

The project scope statement includes deliverables of project and they work which is
important for creation of the deliverables. The project scope statement consists of following
components in context of pedal power brand:
Product scope: this means completing and accomplishing the project. In context of pedal
power brand, knew gym equipment’s will be initiated in the premises. The area of gym will
be increased in order to make more spacious gym. It will help in attracting a lot of
customers towards the gym.

wider section for customers where they can have training sessions as well as gaming area. D

completing the project.
Scenario 3
Harold and Annalise come into your office and take a seat.
Harold speaks enthusiastically about a party he and Annalise went to over the weekend and
they both realised having a swimming pool would be a great thing to include in the
development.
“How can we make it happen?” Annalise asks. As you explain the change control
arrangements, Annalise and Harold tell you to make the adjustments. Pedal Power is going
to have a pool!
Task 3:
Create an adjustment to the scope using the change control procedures developed
previously.
Create an outline to be sent to Pedal Power that shows the adjustments to the timeline for
deliverables, the adjustment to the costs (use basic estimates from your local area for the

installation of a pool) and any quality impacts and constraints.
Submit the adjustments and changes to your Trainer & Assessor as they will act as
Harold, the person authorised to approve the change. Once you receive the approval, the
change needs to be communicated and included in the project scope and project timelines.
Ensure you make the changes to the final scoping document and timelines.
The pedal power will initiate running off gym after a month with new equipment’s.

The pedal power will be located in area where there are more health conscious people. It
will help in attracting more number of people towards the gym. The new equipment’s will
be helpful in gaining attention of lot of health conscious individuals.
issues with the project include lack of communication. There were different staff members
who were not associated with managing their job role properly from stop that is why it was
not easy to maintain successful implementation of project activities.
I have always tried to focus upon the issues and solving them properly. It is my duty to
manage working abilities of all these staff members and provide them the right opportunity
on the project so that they can work efficiently

In future projects, I will focus more upon time management as in the pedal power project
there was less time in establishing the success rate.
