Debate: “people are born evil”
While there are a significant number of theories regarding why human commit
unspeakable sins and reflects the personality of evil, none of the theory is particularly confirming
the fact that people are born evil. A significant number of the researchers debated that some
people are born evil and commit sins as a result of genes which contributed to violence and
brutality (Crittenden and Helle 2017). On the other hand, few researchers also debated that if
childhood experience of an evil person is filled with hardships, violence, and brutality, they are
more inclined to adopt the habit of committing evil acts (DeLisi. et al. 2017) Hence, this paper
will provide a debate regarding people are born evil.
Bottoms et al. (2016) referred to as the word evil as an adjective but a noun and when is
considered as evil, his or her actions tend to be evaluated to confirm the evil nature. Song et al.
(2017) highlighted that childhood experience of individuals facilitate their personality
development and trigger their act of committing sins. Hence, the experience of individuals plays
an essential role in personality development. On the other hand, Naoi, Riederer and Maruyama
(2016) argued that no one is born evil, rather the presence of gene such as mutation of
neurotransmitter metabolizing monoamine oxidase A is shown to contribute in the behavior of
aggression and violence. He argued that although most of the children experience emotional
turmoil, only those children who have the mutant gene tend to become evil and commit
unspeakable sin in their childhood and adulthood. During emotional distress, while few people
are more reactive towards the negative emotions, some children are less reactive towards it
which further assists them to make a choice. Blair (2018), supported the statement and
highlighted that those children who received empathy during emotional distress are more likely
to develop Altruism, characteristics of being selflessness. On the other hand, the children

who never received empathy from the parents, community, peers, and teachers tend to become a
psychopath and commits sins like murder. To support this statement, Pemment (2015) showed
that physiology of a human being is what triggers them to be an evil person. The person with the
character of altruism, have bigger amygdala which is a part of the brain responsible
for processing memories, decision making, and emotional responses. The individuals who are
psychopaths and evil have smaller amygdala part, contributing to their personality where
experience acts as the catalyst to commit sins. In this context, the upbringing of the children
requires encouragement, empathy, and compassion which will facilitate their personality
development and reduce the chances of being evil.
In conclusion, it can be said that while childhood experience plays a crucial role in the
development of evil personality, there are other factors such as smaller amygdala and presence of
monoamine oxidase A which contributed to violence and aggression. In this case, parents are
required to encourage and empathize children who are experiencing emotional distress for
preventing being evil.

Please state one strength about your involvement in the debate.
The strength of the involvement is that I gathered in-depth knowledge regarding the
psychology of an evil person. Previously, I was unaware of the psychology of an evil person
and tend to consider the person as born evil. After conducting in-depth research from peer-
reviewed journals, I gather the knowledge that there are genes and brain structure that
contribute to being evil. It provided me the opportunity to do teamwork and improve
communication. It also helped me to gather the knowledge from opposition arguments and
gather feedback from my peers which I will incorporate in my future practice. This piece of
information will further help me to reconsider the actions of the evil person and evaluate
the factors that made them evil rather than considering the person as an evil which will further
facilitate my future practice

While I have conducted thorough research, I would require to improve my team working
skills such as conflict management skills which will further help to in my future practice. After
involving myself with the debate, since we all are working on the same topic, sometimes
conflicts of opinion was evident in the team which I failed to resolve. However, considering
our excellent group dynamics, we eventually resolved the conflict. Hence, in the future, I
would like to improve my conflict management skills in order to improve team working and
interpersonal skills. For improving future conflict management skills, I would involve myself
in the training and workshops and seek help from my supervisors.
How useful did you find your research notes during the debate?
In order to present a concise debate, the research notes are extremely useful which further
helped me altered my values and beliefs. While making research notes, I conducted in-depth
research regarding the psychology of psychopaths, physiological factors behind comminuting
unspeakable sins and how empathy and parental guidance can alter the inclination of the child
for developing negative traits that disrupt their quality of life. The research was conducted
from the electronic database such as CINAHL, Medline and PsycNET which further facilitate
the credibility of the research. The researcher note further helped me alter my thinking
regarding the personality of the people, make a contribution in the debate, a concise
conclusion of the debate regarding the character of the individuals.

In order to make the research of the debate more useful, I will distribute the work amongst my
other team members and make a schedule for each of the members with their workload. I will
conduct an in-depth research from the credible electronic databases to make research more
accurate and precise. After gathering the information, I and my team will evaluate the
credibility of each research to incorporate it in the debate. To present the research accurately, I
will gather format my paper accurately with page number, font size, and proper
tabs. Moreover, I will improve my conflict management skills in order to improve team
working. it will improve my communication and interpersonal skills which I will further
incorporate in future practice.
