INTRODUCTION
Human resource department is termed as one of an effective department of the business
that are accountable for identifying the suitable individual as per to their requirements of diverse
sections. This field are also accountable for creating the training schedule for workers. Behind
the success of the management in an efficient operation of all the division that are essential. The
framework of people management in the contemporary environment of the management has been
covered in this report (Elbaset, and Ata, 2021). By the impact of COVID – 19 higher term of
effects have been seen on the global people management over the past three years. As there are
varied sort of issues and challenges such as unemployment, distance working and so on that had
faced by management. It will have an impact on the profitability of the business and as well as
on effectiveness and productiveness of the workers. The management consider in this report is
Marks and Spencer. It is an international brand of UK and the management was founded in the
year of 1884. The following report covers the scenario of current issues which are faced by the
line manager and abilities, knowledge and behaviour that are required in HR managers. This
report also involves the HR process that underpin the performance of management.

Current issues which are faced by the line manager related to people management
As the managerial environment is very contemporary in aspect by this they have diverse
sort of issues and challenges that had faced by line manager in context to the people
management. After the raising the impact of COVID – 19 it will have seen that the economical
section of the nations but also on the operations of the diverse divisions of the business (Fredella,
and et.al., 2021). As there are diverse sort of challenges that had been faced by the line managers
of the Marks and Spencer that are as follows -
Relation with employees – In context to the people management, this issue is being
termed as one of an essential challenges that have been faced by the line manager of the
business. It is essential for the line manager to concentrates on context with their
candidates because this directly effects on the diverse operations of the management.
Effective relationship with the workers not just to enhance the productivity of the
workers but also support them to accomplish the aims of the business in an efficient way.
If the line managers of the business make effective dealing with their workers then they

can easily know about varied issues that had been faced by them. After the situation of
pandemic, employee relation has become big issues for the management due to their
improper communication and less communication. In relation to the Marks and Spencer,
most of the workers perform their activities from home and by this ineffective
communication, no performance check and bad leadership have been seen from the
managers of the divisions (Karimovna, 2021). It will be resulted that the workers of the
Marks and Spencer are not capable to present their activities in productive way that
depicts to the profitability of the business.
Adaptation to innovation - It is very essential for the business to adapt the variations in
the techniques. Adoption to the innovation is being termed as other challenge that had
been faced by the line managers in context to the people management . After the impact
of COVID – 19 pandemic situation most of the management start adapting new
techniques and innovation in their managerial operations. It is not just support them in
enhancing their profitability but also support them to enjoy the competitive benefits in the
field of market. But from the orientation of new techniques it is time consuming. The
adapting of the technology and innovation in the business will follows with higher term
of roles and responsibilities and as well as opportunities. In relation to the Marks and
Spencer, for the workers of the business adaption of the new techniques that has been
termed as a big issues. Due to the deficiency of guidance in the management the workers
of the business are becoming well-known with the new techniques or new manner to
carry out the activities (Murphy, and Tosti-Kharas, 2021). As the workers of the business
are not confident about the adaption of new techniques it will directly shows on the
performance of the workers. As to overcome from such issues the line manager of the
business have to concentrates on creating the training programmes to their workers by
which they can effectively adapt the new techniques and innovation.
Knowledge skills and behaviour needed to be an effective people manager
Good communication skills – Communication skills are termed as the core abilities that
a line manager of the business should have in them. Such abilities plays an essential role
in accomplishing the targets of the business in an efficient way. By the support of such
skills HR managers of the business make effective relations with their workers and
efficiently communicate with their thoughts and orientation in front of them. Generally,

communication skills are being separated into two parts like verbal and as well as written
skills. It is essential for line managers to become excellent in both sort of communication
skills.
Leadership skills – For an efficient people management in the business the human
resource manager should have the leadership skills in them. With the support of such
skills the HR manage their workers in respect to motivate their workers with diverse sort
of leadership style that has been utilised by the managers (Reina, and Scarozza, 2021). In
relation to the Marks and Spencer, the human resource managers of the business can
utilise the diverse sort of leadership style such as democratic, authoritative and so on in
their management to maintain their staff faculty. As with it, they can also utilise the
theories such as contingency and translation to maintain their workers.
HR process which underpin and support management when it comes to effective performance
management
Performance management review – This procedure is directly linked to the coordination and
communication with their candidates in the business. In this procedure the higher authorities and

procedure are as follows -
Planning stage – It is being termed as the primary step of this procedure in which the
organisation and the HR not just refers the targets of the business. In this section the
targets of the business are allied with the staff faculty targets.
Monitoring - In this section the targets are breakdown in sub segmented targets by which
the actions of the management can be done in an effective way (Shin, 2021).
Reviewing – In this section the organisation and the workers of the business will review
the performance and analyse that as there employees are meeting the targets or not. In the
end of the financial year this section has been completed.
Rewarding – From the point of view of manager, this section is being linked with an
effective stage in this procedure. If the workers of the business receive the rewards in
term of appraisal or any section in the end of the year because of their potential

performance. It will encourage them but also enhance their productivity in an effective
way.
360 degree appraisal – This procedure is also termed as the worker review process that
comprises thoughts and stand point of the managers and group members of the business. The
report that created by the managers will not just give all rounded feedback but it also give the
feedback on regular and as well as on continuous basis (Thakur, and et.al., 2021). This
procedure is utilised by the managers in relation to appraisal by which they can work hard and
perform all the task in an efficient way.
Recommendations
The HR manager of the Marks and Spencer management have to utilise performance
management review procedure in the business in respect to encourage the workers (Ulusoy, and
Hazır, 2021). In this procedure the targets of the business and workers are deals in similar line
that offers advantages. As there are various advantages of this procedure that are as follows -
Workers become highly involves towards their work and also being encouraged.
The retention section of the workers in the business has been maximised.
Targets are distinctly precise and new opportunities has been created for both the
workers and management.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned report it has been concluded that, effective operations of the human
resource division is very essential for the global development of the business. Diverse sort of
issues had been faced by line managers of the business in respect to maintain the workers in the
business in context to the Marks and Spencer. This report also depicts the diverse sort of
knowledge, skills and behaviour that required in a line manager to maintain the individuals and
diverse procedure that support the performance of business.
