INTRODUCTION Personal and professional development helps the manager to grow learning and growth in the career. Personal development is related to the personal ability and skills required to be accomplished the result in own role as well as at workplace. It’s all about improving the personal talent and potential in both the workplaces (Personality and professional development. 2018). Professional development means to develop the qualities which is related to role a person is performing in the organisation. Travelodge hotel have several hotel chain around the world. The hotel is incorporated in Thames, UK. This report is all about the ways used in developing the personal and professional abilities due to which career will enhance and approaches related to self-management learnings. Identification of development need and the activities are required to be performed.After that personality development will be implemented after that effective strategies will be formed. TASK 1 1.1 Approaches of Self managed learning Self-managed learning is the process through which people develop different ways of learning new things for the development in the organization(Agnetti and Barbato 2013).The Travelodgeassistancemanagershouldusetheseapproachestoformtheplanforthe development of staff in the company. The approaches of self-managed learning are outlined below: Learning through research:- It is very important learning in modern world. The tools which are used is web logs, wikis and other internet sources. If learning is continuously happening then goals and objectives will be achieved quickly by the manager. Learning through conferences and seminars –Through conferences and seminars, an individual can develop their skills and can present their knowledge for the development of organization. Individuals can develop their confidence level of speaking in public and develop their presentation skills by attending the seminars of experienced persons. Learning through social networks –Now a day’s individuals are spending their more time on social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and many more. They can learn new things about other people's and can enhance their knowledge or talent on these sites.
Therefore, self-managed learning is the process to observe different ways to learn new ideas and thoughts. An individual can follow the approaches of self-managed learning discussed above. The approach which Travelodge hotel manager adopt is learning through research. By this approach manager learn the system by internal and external research. 1.2 Ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional context could be encourage. Lifelong learning is very important for a person to improve the overall growth of an employee in a chosen area of skill and profession. These lifelong learning helps the employee to achieve the long term as well as short term goal which are set by them. These goals encourage them to be in the path of lifelong learning(Alqarni, 2016). The Travelodge hotel comes under travel and tourism industry is a very fascinating industry due to which people get encourage to stick towards the lifelong learning. Here are the so many ways by which lifelong learning will be encourage:- Self-directed learning:- It’s an initiative and responsibilities which is taken by the individuals to gain the knowledge by themselves. Its involves the personal activities and to develop the personal qualities to be on path of success. Continuing professional development:- It’s a continuous process of developing the lifelong learning, maintaining and documenting the managers professional skills. By this process manger is able to enhance the knowledge and skills which are required to be developed as manager of a Hotel. Linking Higher education with industry:- It’s very important for the manger to be highly qualified to manage the organisation effectively(Beddoeand Howard, 2012). If the person is not well educated, then it is not possible for them to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge. 1.3 Benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and the organisation. Individual follows the self-managed learning to develop the personal and professional qualities and the skills. Skills which are developed will be self-evaluated by them. By this person can achieves the personal oriented goals in their life. By this personality will be reflected. Benefits for the individual: - If an employee have self-manage learning attitude then the competitiveness will increase and the person can claim for higher position in the organisation. They also want to attract more and more customers to stay in their hotel. They were about to launch the super rooms which add more comfort to the customer(Fee 2017). Company wants to launch the career development program for the employee. The professional skills and standards should hotel manager have:- Communication:-Themanagerisconsiderthepublicfaceofthehotel.So, communication skill is necessary in them to handle the job responsibilities. Managers have address themselves in a respectful, empathetic and professional manner. Leadership:- The Travelodge hotel manager should have the leadership qualities by which employees will boost up, listen to them, decisively solve the issue and assigning responsibilities have to be accurate. Operational knowledge:- The manger should have flourished knowledge about the operational work. Team building:- Hotel staff are continuously interact with guest, a stressful environment will build. To control the negative behaviour of them towards the co-workers, guest. The manager has to build the cooperative team building in the company.

If my communication skills are excellent then I can manage the guest and employee properlyotherwisemybusinesswillgeteffected(Fokkens-Bruinsmaand Canrinus,2012).If guest are not address appropriately then they will never come back due to which business get effected. To have strong communication skill is very important to be a hotel manager. To improve my communication skill I will take part in debates and group discussion along with this read newspapers, journals and books. Leadership skill:- If my leadership skills are developed properly then it’s very difficult for me to lead the company by which organisational activates get effected. Being a manger leadership quality have to be strong. To improve my leadership skill I will attend the personality development program and work in teams to enhance the leadership quality. 2.3 Identify development opportunities to meet current and futures defined need. Being a manger of Travelodge hotel it’s very important for me to develop the qualities and do the activities which help me to develop those skills. To improve the leadership style:-Being a hotel manager sometimes it’s very difficult for me to manage team effectively. Due to which organisational objectives are not achieved. To improve leadership skill, I have to attend the personality development programmes and try to learn new skills from my seniors. To improve the communication skills: - My communication skill is also required to be developed, as a hotel manager my communication have to be influential and attractive to my employees. To improve my communication skill, I can take part in debate, group discussion and seminars as well. To improve the operational knowledge: -My operational knowledge are as strong as they have to be as I have less experience in industry(Guzmán, Oliveros and Mendoza, 2017). But hotel manager should have all the knowledge related to finance, HRM etc. as these are come under the operational activities of an organisation. To improve these, I have learn operational activities and have to attend the seminars. 2.4 Create the personality development plan Personality development plan is created to understand weak skills and what types of actions are required to take to overcome those skills.
