INTRODUCTIONPersonal and professional development is very important for a person as with the help ofthis, an individual is able to get various types of benefits. It can be referred as a process by whichpeople set focus on their goals and objectives by increasing their skills and experience (Avalos,2011). This development is very important and essential as it helps a person in exploring variousopportunities that are available in the market. If an individual will have more skills and talentthen he will be able to perform his job effectively and efficiently that is needed in everyenterprise for getting success. This project is based on Sainsbury which is the third largestretailer in UK and offers various types of products to households and consumers. This study willdefine various approaches to self-managed learning and its benefits to an individual as well as toorganisation. It will also state about the current skills and competencies against professionalsstandards and organisational objectives. TASK 11.1 Approaches to self-managed learningFor self-managed learning, there are various kinds of approaches that can be used formanaging learning and development. According to this concept, it is said that firstly, individualshould analyse his own capability and capacity and accordingly should make a plan so that hecan reach to his decided destination. Following are given certain approaches that are used bySainsbury for increasing the skills of its employees-Visionary approach- According to this concept, person should make future plan or longterm vision as it will help in own development. It will provide direction to him that whatshould be done or not for achieving future objectives.Meta approach- This concept changes the perception of people towards any specificaspect. With the support of this framework, they give their response and reaction incertain situation.Strategic approach- This concept creates strategic framework in the mind of anindividual by which person will be able to give respond to every situation in a strategicmanner.1
