theories into actions.
Encouraging lifelong learning
Learning is a continuous process that starts from the formal academic credentials and
continues throughout the life. It is encouraged in the following ways: Self directed learning: It is a voluntary and self motivated step adopted by an individual
for acquisition of knowledge and skills in a very systematic and planned way with the
help of specialist and expertise in the field (Brody and Hadar, 2011). Academic credentials: Fundamental method of acquiring knowledge is the pursuit of
academic credentials in the form of formal coaching at schools and institutes. Higher education: For the enhancement of knowledge and information, individuals
pursue higher professional courses. It helps in acquiring further knowledge and
information in the related field. Government and other legislative bodies also take
initiative in this as through credit transfer and credit accumulation, it helps the individuals
to pursue higher degree courses. Self reflective: An individual learns through surroundings in significant manner. Through
articulation of knowledge and information gained in prior experiences enables an
individual to react in other arenas.

employees. Employees pursuing self managed learning processes are equipped with skills
and talent that fits in professional standards. It helps in accruing greater achievements and
profitability (Carpenter and Stimpson, 2007).
It reduces the cost of training and development programs conducted by an organization.
TASK 2
1.1 Approaches to self managed learning.
Self managed learning is a scientific approach in which a structured and research based
methodology is adopted. It is an initiation taken by an individual for developing required
attributes in order to attain career progression and achieving targeted personal and professional
goals (Cowan and Westwood, 2006). Though it is scientific in nature, approaches adopted by
individuals are subjective which vary from an individual to individual. But the core components
and fundamental structure remains same in each method. Approaching towards the self managed
learning fundamentally includes four stages: Initiation: Increasing fierceness in competition and volatility in the market trickles down
to the need of upgrading the potential and experience. Realizing the necessity of
improvement to facilitate in the existing challenging market, individual takes an initiation
in a systematic and planned manner (Bezzina, 2006). Personality analysis: In order to proceed further, it is very essential to analyze the current
abilities. Identification of strengths and weakness enables an individual to prepare an
effectual plan with the help of expertise in the field to fulfill future needs. Further, it also
includes the ways to identify learning styles and ways of processing information and
tasks assigned to an individual. Complete analysis assist an individual to enhance
productivity and efficiency in a very significant manner. Assessment of learning styles
and other attributes such as strengths and weakness helps in pacing out the process of
development by using the appropriate methods and strategies (Alterio, 2004). Setting learning goals: Clearly stated goals are the prerequisite for self managed
learning. Targets are set in an organized manner with the set of activities that are to be
undertaken. It is executed in comprehensive way by specifying goals and targets that are
3

needed to be achieved. It includes the sequence of short term and long term objectives by
specifying the time frame for its completion. Along with the setting of targeted goals,
resources required to attain them are also realized with the proper framework. It is
implemented after precise detailing of resources needed to fulfill each objective and goal.
Evaluation: After implementation of different procedures and methods to achieve
targeted goals, evaluation is made by comparing the desired targets and outcomes
achieved. By analyzing the gap between both the situations further improvements are
processed (Bezzina, 2006).
2.1 skills you require meeting organizational goals and objectives
At present I am pursuing a professional course in marketing. I aspire to work as a
marketing manager in hospitality industry (Cowan and Westwood, 2006). For the establishment
of strong foundation in the highly competitive industry, organization seeks employees that

expected to possess influencing communication skills. Communication with customers and other
employees are manifested through verbal and non verbal means. He is required to be equipped

and modals. A manger is endowed with slew of duties and responsibilities, for that purpose he
must possess interpersonal skills such as decision making power and leadership qualities. Other
attributes needed for the pursuit of excellence in field is skills to manage stress, burden and
exertion. Organizations operating in hospitality industry function in different areas with diverse
workforce, for the purpose it is required to manage the employees issues with efficiency and
preciseness (Guillemin, McDougall and Gillam, 2009).

personality, inferences can be made that:
I possess weak time management skills and need to improve knowledge of marketing
principles and their applicability. Further, I possess good decision making power that is crucial to
handle number of responsibilities and duties while working in an organization.

TASK 3
3.3 learning against the aims and objectives
Along with the preparation and implementation of development plan, evaluation is the
crucial part of personal and professional development. By using effective tools and techniques, a
precise evaluation is made to figure out the gap between desired targeted goals and achieved
results. It enables to make the further improvements and changes in the development plan. It
includes finding out lacunae and hurdles in getting desired results. Plan has portrayed short term
and long term objectives along with the development opportunities. Evaluation is made on both
qualitative and quantitative aspects. On quantitative it is assessed if objectives are achieved in
prescribed time frame (Mestry and Singh, 2007). Qualitative analysis is done on wider scale that
assesses improvement in quality of work and enhancement of skills with respect to professional
standards set. Different tools and methods are used for evaluation. Through the thorough
evaluation made, following inferences are made:
I have developed better time management skills, but need to be assessed so that work can
be processed in better way.

By undergoing professional courses, training and counseling I have developed the
knowledge of marketing principles and models. It has also enabled me to learn its better
applicability adopting kinesthetic approach (Roberts and Pruitt, 2008).
In the area of presentation, I need to improve on certain areas such as delegation.
3.4 Updated plan
With the analysis made, I have figured out that so many skills are developed as per the
need. Some are needed to be improved:
Presentation skills: I have figured that my presentation skills have been improved in
significant way but needed to be inculcated better ways and technologies in processes.
Along with the mentioned attributes, some skills are required to be installed in plan.
Decision making power: An important interpersonal skills that helps in executing tasks
efficiently.
TASK 4
4.1 and 4.2 Work based problems and communication at different level
One work based problem
In every industry senior management is endowed with the number of duties and
responsibilities to run their organization in effective manner. Though they are equipped with
required knowledge and skills, they encounter number of work based problems that hi9nder the
fast pace growth of employees and organization (Sheikh, Milne and MacGregor, 2007). One
such problem management faces are the lack of team work attitude among employees. Due to the
increased personal and professional interactions between people, workforce has become so
diverse in nature. Employees come from different cultural, economic and skills background. To
manage them and derive results by inculcating team work in them is a crucial task.
Identified work based problem can be rectified in number of ways. Inducing team work
in employees leads to enhancement of efficiency and profitability in organization.
Application of learning style methods brings lucrative results such as it helps in
identifying strengths and processing ways. With the help this team can be formed with
employees possessing single interest and skills which results positively.
Along with this using Tuckman team building model results in the better coordination
among employees. Different stages in the Tuckman models helps in developing mutual
9

respect and cooperation. Sharing of ideas and opinions leads to the bringing of creative
solutions of problems (Thiry, Laursen and Hunter, 2011).
A leader plays vital role in showing ways to members of team. Clearly stated objectives
and goals enable manager to form an effective and resourceful team (Wayne and et.al,
2008). Resolving issues and addressing grievances is an important element of leadership and
manager's work. A better and result oriented team can be formed by resolving issues
occurring between employees in efficient way.
Communication methods
Communication in an organization is done in different ways at different levels.
Strategic: At this level planning is done about the use of different strategies and policies
in order to achieve targeted goals and outcomes. Core components are preparedness for
the volatile external situation and management of resources. At this level communication
is very formal in nature (Whitelaw, Sears and Campbell, 2004).
Tactical: It refers to the commanding and controlling section of the organization. It takes
into account all the functioning with respect to the control of all the operations. At this
level communication is done both formally and informally. To communicate higher
officials and subordinates about work and strategies, formal means is adopted whereas
work related to instructions is done in informal manner.
Operational: This is the part of organization that executes all the policies framed. At this
level all the communication are done in informal manner. Here training and development
sessions are conducted with respect to the enhancement of skills that are done through
verbal means (Xanthopoulou and et.al, 2007).
4.3 Time management strategies
In order to improve the time management skills incorporating following strategies
significantly improve the efficiency and productivity of work.
Proper planning: Power comes with responsibilities. When there are so much work to be
performed, it is needed that it gets accomplish in proper way. For that purpose planning is
a crucial requirement.
Avoiding major obstacles such as distractions and procrastination: During execution of
tasks assigned there are some obstacles such as unexpected and unwanted distractions
10
Document Page
that are needed to be avoided. Further, procrastination that is delaying of working hinders
growth and development that has to be avoided (Self managed learning. 2008).
Prioritizing: It is very essential to get prioritize the works and tasks. According to the
preferences and importance tasks are to be accomplished.
From the above mentioned strategies according to me first one that is proper planning is
effectual method for time management.
CONCLUSION
From the above study made, it has been articulated that systematic and planned manner
of personal and professional development leads to the acquisition of skills and talents that fits in
professional standards set. It has been inferred that using different learning styles enables to
process information faster and in structured manner.
