INTRODUCTIONPersonal and professional development is an art of an employee to learn from itssurroundings and working culture so as to improve its working efficiency (Personal andprofessional development. 2012). This is an important function of an employee within anorganisation. The organisation here taken is Travelodge which is a private company having itsoperations across UK. This is the second largest chain of budget hotel sector in UK. In thisreport, understanding of self-managed learning to enhance lifelong development is done.Responsibility of own personal and professional development is provided, so that the employeewill be able to do that. Apart from that, implementation and continually reviewing own personaland professional development plan is also explained. In the end, interpersonal and transferableskills are demonstrated.TASK 11.1 Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning.Self-managed learning is an art of learning through own skills and learning ability of anindividual. This type of learning approach helps an individual in an organization to work withmore concentration (Ekanayake and Wishart, 2015). Apart from that, it also helps in the personaldevelopment of an individual. As a manager in Travelodge, it is essential to provide differenttypes of approaches to the employees so as to develop their interpersonal skills. The approachesof self-managed learning are explained below:Coaching:These are the classes or meetings which enables the employees to learn new things.Coachinghelp the employees in an organization to develop their own skills. These coaching areheaded by the experts for providing the knowledge of a particular aspect. As a manager inTravelodge, it is believed that coaching will help the employees in increasing their knowledge aswell as experience.Internet:Internet is one of the key source of collecting information. The information collectedthrough internet can help the manager of Travelodge to develop their personal and professionalskills. The tasks allotted to employees can also be completed within time. Apart from that, theemployees can allow themselves to work with their full potential.
Social Network:This is the most frequent platform to develop personal and professional knowledge in anindividual. People in today's era are used to operate the social networking sites (Garton, Edge,and Seedhouse, 2016). Therefore, it has become a perfect platform for the learners in order todevelop their personal and professional knowledge. As a manager in Travelodge, internet canhelp the employees in self-managed learning.From the above methods of self-managed learning, Travelodge can use social media inorder to make its employee to learn personal and professional knowledge.1.2 Ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts could be encouraged.Lifelong learning is a process of developing the personal and professional knowledge ofan individual so that it can reach towards its objective and goals. It is known as the continuousprocess of learning ability of an individual. With the help of this approach, the manager ofTravelodge can avail the interpersonal development of its employees. The different ways throughwhich lifelong learning in personal and professional context could be encouraged are explainedbelow:Self-directed Learning:This type of strategy is used by the employees to handle to the tough situation withoutany help of assistance. The managers of Travelodge can use this strategy in order to handle thetough situations easily. With the help of this strategy an individual can easily handle the toughsituations. Thus Travelodge provide freedom to make effective decision to the employees. Sinceself-directed learning is helpful in the development of employee's career therefore it can beencouraged in order to adopt lifelong learningContinuous professional development:Continuous professional development is an art of an employee in order to adopt thechanges which are necessary for professional development. This type of development allows themanager of Travelodge to make the employees develop their interpersonal and professionalskills. This development helps the employees in order to develop its strength, weakness andquality of adaptability (Gnevek, Savva, and Saigushev, 2016). This quality not only improve theperformance of employee but also Travelodge can take advantage of it. It is the step ofcontinuous learning from the past experiences. It holds the employee to do the same mistakeagain in future. Therefore employee can be encouraged enough to adopt lifelong learning.
