INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is a process through which an individual and
organisation taking part in process of learning to meet challenges and desire goals (Beach, 2012).
It is considers as the development of individual as well as firm, in PDP a person normally
coordinating or working with mentor, teacher, or supervisor to achieve sets goals and objectives.
Professional development plan is known as a single persons development plan. These plans are
helpful in developing career and future of an individual. Personal development is directly consist
of individuals own progress, it is the process of maintaining an action plan which is based on
some aspects such as awareness, values, goal- setting, reflection. Holiday inn is most popular
hotel industry which is placed in united kingdom. This is famous for its high quality services.
TASK 1
1.1Approaches to self managed learning approach
Self management is a technique in which group or individual find various ways in
learning things, which could be in the work place or at society. It is also determined as setting
out goals and objectives for learning identifying and evaluating purpose for basic cognitive
process and way to achieve such targeted goals. It is important for every individual to collect
such knowledge for long term. There is lots of challenges available due to advancement in
methods and technologies. Every person need that knowledge for applying them in their personal
and professional life. Some major approaches of self managed learning are described as below:
Seminars and conferences : It is very much popular way of self management learning, it
is easy for people to learn through conferences and seminars. Seminars are best way to express
knowledge about any particulate area. It provide opportunity to an individual to present their
idea and knowledge to other who want learn new things (Brody and Hadar, 2011).
Social network: In today's scenario people mostly spend their huge time on social
networking such as Facebook, twitter, Instagram, etc. people can learn so many things form
social media, these all are helpful in improving social knowledge of an individual.
Internet : This is widely used learning aid in today's world. People can easily get
information about anything. Individual could collect knowledge and information through internet
and use them at their work place.

1.2 The ways of personal and professional learning for long term
Continuous learning is known as life long learning, personal learning could contribute to
a persons professional life. Every individual wants to learn things for their future purpose
(Calderhead, Denicolo and Day, 2012). They could have their own personal appraisal through
identifying and evaluating their strength, weakness, opportunity and threats. Life long learning
is helpful for an individual to achieve their long term as well as short term goals. This can
provide a way to get an edge over their potential and skills, so scope of life long acquisition
could be increased at high level. These long term and short term goals provide a path for
individual or group to go on right direction for attaining their long term future goals. SWOT
analysis is providing accurate knowledge about a person, my strength is good communication
skill, learning skills, friendly nature, convening power etc. my weakness is some time I get
frustrated when I am tired or when it is not possible for me to to control or handle my work in
giving period of time, I try to handle it by having exercises and yoga. This will help me to
increase my concentration level.
1.3 Benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organisation
Self-managed learning is beneficial for individual as well as organisation, this is briefly
described as under :
Benefits to individual: Self-managed learning is important and beneficial for every
individual in order to get a comfortable and successful life. This can help a person to set an
example which could be used by an individual at certain phases of life. Self-managed learning
attitude could increase competitiveness among public. Good skills and attitude can reach a
person at high position. Their intelligence and confidence could be increased, so that they can
easily get better opportunities then their competitors. The major benefit of self-managed learning
is growth rate of an individual is high and issues or errors are automatically minimised within
personal and professional life.
Benefits to organisation: Through stage-managed learning process an organisation can
get highly qualified and well skilled people in their firm to get more profit. Hired people are
capable to handle all duties and responsibilities which are rendered by organisation according to
their capabilities. In hotel industry they hire people who are having knowledge related to same
industry (Cleary and et. al., 2011). Holiday inn conduct a well planned interview process to
recruit high skilled employees in their hotel to offer products and services to their potential

customers. Hotel could increase their competency by hiring large number of well skilled
employees. These highly attitude people can act as role model for others.

2.1 Skills and competencies against professional standard and organisational objectives.
Every person having their own skills and abilities to perform and behave at work place or
society. My skills are described as below:
Communication skill: My major strength is my communication power, I can easily
communicate with other at work place without and hesitation (Cooke, 2012). This will help me
in attaining my as well as organisational goals and objectives. Holiday inn hotel is most popular
hotel across the globe. They hire me on the basis of my communication skills, because this
provide help to communicate and convince customers.
Learning skills: My another strength is my learning ability, I can easily adopt innovative
and new things which are providing help at my work place. I usually concentrated on taking long
term knowledge which I can use in my future purpose. I am taking active part in training and
development session which is conducted by hotel Holiday inn. So this training session give
knowledge and idea to attaining organisational goals and objectives. Through better learning I
can easily compete with my competitors in order to get more success and growth then others.
Listening ability : I am a good listener, I always follow foot prints of my head for
achieving high position. This skill help me to perform tasks which are renders by manager or
high authority.
Every hotel industry hire those people who are having ability to convene their customers for
taking advantage of their products and services. Holiday inn mainly focuses towards achieving
their targeted goals and objectives.
2.2 Identification of own development needs
Personal development is important for every individual in order to getting achievement
and success (Desimone, 2011). SWOT analysis is the best way of identifying a persons own
need, which is described as below:
Strength My strength is my power, these are helping me out for achieving my
own targeted goals and objectives. My major strength is my way of

talking, lots of people are attract towards communication level. A
person can easily influence others decision through their
communication level.
Another strength is my learning ability, I love to learn new things
from various resources, I am usually spend more time in learning
things which are helpful in my professional goals (Ebert-May and et.
al., 2011).
Weaknesses My major weakness is my anger, some time due to pressure I get
angry on my colleagues , and they feel demotivated on that time. It is
easy for me to talk with any one, but some time when it is important
for me to present something in front of my heads, managers and top
management levels I get hesitated or shy this is also my weakness.
Opportunities I have taking part in seminars or conferences, and it help me to
overcome my weaknesses.
I am always trying to adopt new technologies for improving my
knowledge and strength.
Threats Some time it is hard to explain my own point of view in front of my
heads and leaders because of my hesitation.
2.3 Development opportunities to meet current and future needs
My development needs to identify present and future goals are as follows:
At Present stage I can do everything to develop and identify my basic needs. This will help in
achievement of present and future organisational goals. Skills can be developed in other fields
which are related with strategic business planning, leading people in organisations, personal and
professional development programmes and participative management. Knowledge can be
achieved by doing in-depth study about different subjects. Present needs can be developed by
gaining knowledge from different fields which are related with field study.
Future needs are related with opportunities which will be created in future so that goals
can be effectively achieved by firms (Floyd, 2012). It helps in promoting skills and development
of individuals because skills are important for achieving every aspects which are related with

future times. Present skills and knowledge should be developed and concern about personal and
professional development should be encourages as to achieve long term goals of firms.
2.4 Personal and professional development plan
Every person wanted to be independent in their personal and professional life, to become
prosperous (Gallagher and et. al., 2011). Every individual need to make a proper planning
regarding their own needs and life style. An individual put his/ her all affords for developing an
effective plan. Person need to expand their knowledge and skills for getting more beneficial
opportunities in their life. My PPD plan id described as below:

3.1Precess and activities to implement the development plan
Development plan is helpful in developing personal and professional life of an individual
in order to achieve better future goals (Gamrat and et. al., 2014). Some process and activities are
necessary to implement the plan. These are described as below:
Time framing : This is first and important activity which is necessary to manage before
start up any work. This provide guidance for better implementation of development plan, this
helps an individual to provide direction for completion of any work in given period of time.
Identification of skills, knowledge and ability: It is an important process in every hotel
industry including Holiday inn to measure skills, ability or knowledge of their employees. This
evaluation helps an organisation to providing tasks and job to their employees according to their
set of skills and knowledge.
Learning strategies: Holiday inn is always concentrated on providing best and
comfortable service and products to their customers in order to attain profit. They conduct some
training and educational session for providing knowledge and idea of organisational work and
environment.
Identify resources : Resources are important for performing task in effective manner,
hotel needs to identify their human as well as other resources for better and effective
implementation of development plan.
Getting feedbacks: It is the best way to identify progress on their staff members. After
providing services organisation need to collect feedback for customers about performance of
employees (Glogowska and et. al., 2011).

Division of study groups : In an organisation there is various departments are available,
so firms are divide their staffs on the basis of their skills and knowledge. Employees can easily

administrators department. Controlling is important because of better and effective work.

3.3 Own learning against aims and objectives
An individual having their own aims and objectives which they need to be attain in a
particular period of time. As a member of hotel Holiday inn my basic aim to to complete the
given task on time and provide best service to their customers. My major objective is to make
good relationship with customers for maintain them for long time. These below desires helps me
to improve my learning for better achievement and reaching at my own aims and objectives:
Initial meeting preparation : For better result preparation play an important role in every
professional level. I usually manage expectation among group members.
Motivation and anticipation : This two play significant role in personal and professional
development plan. This helps me to find out required knowledge and skills for performing aims
and objectives in very effective manner. High knowledge provide motivation to accomplish short
and long term objectives.
3.4 Development plan which is based on evaluation and feedback
Organisations are focused towards implement a plan based on feedbacks. Firm collect
feedback form customers and evaluate the performance of employees to identify efficiency of
plan. Feedbacks are helpful in identifying merits and demerits of staff members. Organisation
update their development plan after evaluating norms through feedbacks.
Planning: Plan is made for future purpose and organisations create plan to achieve
desired goals and objectives (López‐Pastor, Monjas, and Manrique, 2011). An organisation
firstly set goals and targets and then identify resources and time for achieving defined goals and

per the review of feedbacks organisation made changes which are needed and implement a

Reviewing : This is an important term. Is applies after implementation of plan. It is the
process of checking tasks, so employee can easily identify and understand about their own
personal and professional development (Moon, 2013). Worker and employee can get simple and
clear scenario related with strength, weaknesses and achievements in respect of their
expectation.

4.1 Solution for work-based problems
In an organisation every individual faces issue and conflicts. This is very much important
for employee as well as firm to handle problems for effective work flown in an organisation.
Some employees are active they take problems as a challenge and put their affords to solve it and
get out of it (Mwalongo, 2011). This conflict situations are helpful in test self learning ability and
other skills of workers. Problem and solution of issue is described as below:
Investigation of work-based problem:
In holiday inn hotel the major issue is maintaining collaboration between employees and
managers even in critical situation.
Hotel hire people on the basis of their skills and ability, and they get different salaries
according to their post and set of knowledge, some time it cause as a major issue.
Solution of problem:
Manager and supervisors try to establish good relation among employees for better
understanding at work place. Organisation conduct some activities for maintaining collaboration,
they divide employees in small groups and assign a task to them. Through this their bonding and
understanding level is increased.
4.2 Variety of communication style
Communication is important in every organisation, it is the way of convey data and
information to one department to other. It is an effective process of transferring data , idea,
knowledge, thoughts, feelings and emotion with the use of various media and channel.
Communication style is based on persons personality, humans behave on the basis of their own

globe. It has three operational level such as top, tactical and operational, in which they work and
provide products and services to their consumers (Trede, Macklin and Bridges, 2012). They
convey data and information from top to middle level through written document in which top
level managers signed or give permission for any work or task which is beneficial for
organisational growth. Holiday inn transfer data from middle to operational level through
electronic media such as computer, telephone etc. in this data has to be accurate because total
operation is depend on this information and data. Middle level manager and supervisor transfer
all information and data in detailed form, so it is easy for subordinates to understand task.
4.3 The effectiveness of different time management strategies
The management of time is not possible for every one, people only manage works and
events on different time basis. To complete work or event in desired period of time is known as
time management. Some time management strategies are described as below:
Set priorities: Some employees in an organisation set their own work on the basis of their
priorities. They maintain records for work, these records helps an individual to manage time.
Priority based tasks are not consuming more time (Van Driel and Berry, 2012.).
Know how to spend time : Records are helpful in maintain time for each and every task.
With the help of records a person can easily evaluate high time consuming tasks.
Scheduling time appropriately : It is very important for effective time management, if
time scheduling is not done then it is not possible for an individual to perform any task in desired
time period.
Get organised : Before start up any task, person need to organise work according to
different time schedule. It is important for accomplishing all tasks in given period of time.

As per the above discussion it has been concluded that personal and professional
development is important for every individual. The basic purpose of Holiday inn is to proving
high quality products and services in order to achieving high profit. They mainly focuses on
establishing friendly relationship with their potential consumers. Personal and professional
development is the process of single persons development within the context of education,
