Introduction
The study evaluates the essential elements connected with a speech. The speech being
considered for the study is a speech given by former model and current leader Xenia
Tchoumitcheva. In this speech the speaker talks about her journey in the professional world and
the transformation of her career from a model to a self-made entrepreneur ("Xenia
Tchoumitcheva Leadership Speech University of St. Gallen", 2018). The hook used in the speech
was how she was perceived to be a model incapable of doing analytical jobs or becoming a
leader. Her beauty became more well-known at a time than her capabilities and she had to fight
this image that she had in the society. The credibility has been established as she is already a
popular successful leader. The purpose of the speech was clearly identified at the very beginning
of the speech and was in relation to her journey from a model to a successful entrepreneur. The
preview of the speech was a bit obscure as the speech started with a formal introduction.
Critique
The speech given by Xenia Tchoumitcheva progressed smoothly and relatively good
transitions were seen from sections to sections. For example- at first the speaker mentions about
the initial phase of her professional life. She also provides a small preview of her journey at the
beginning. Moving forward she explained clearly the various phases she went through and the
corresponding views of the society, media and the organizations she worked for in regard to her
life. She explains quite clearly how she faced mildly unwanted attention because she was already
a known personality when she decided to take up finance as a professional choice. The speech
was greatly focused as the speaker did not deviate from her points and kept a natural flow of her
speech (Abdul-Kader & Woods, 2015). The focus was always towards how her femininity,

previous endeavors and media perceptions kept on changing throughout her career. She is
focused towards analyzing the perception of the society towards women that try to establish a
common relationship with beauty and professions that require glamour. Her arguments were
greatly supported when she spoke about defeating stereotypes to become a successful leader and
help her business grow at the same time. The speech was very well organized and structured to
present smooth flow of information without losing focus. The presentation of the speech was
organized through correct intonations and silences as and when required (Giacobello et al.,
2017).
Conclusion
The end of the speech was properly signaled by the speaker as she ended with the key
understandings that generated from her speech. The conclusion was concise and effective as the
speaker established the central idea of the speech that a beautiful woman is often perceived in a
sexual sense and not as a person capable of taking other important roles in life effectively. The
conclusion emphasized on the entire purpose of the speech. There was a call for understanding
and respecting people for who they are rather than assuming stereotypical notions about them.
However, it was seen that the speaker failed to make eye contact with the audience through the
camera. The speaker was definitely very well prepared for the speech. No visual aids were used
and the speech was on a more casual word of mouth basis. The usage of voice was greatly
effective in the speech and used as per the situations being described (Couper-Kuhlen, 2015).
The body language of the speaker was very enthusiastic and positive. The use of phrases and
mannerisms were appropriate.
