INTRODUCTION:
Personal development is very important as it helps in the growth and development. It is
useful in gaining knowledge and experience in career. The personal development must be in
accordance to organisational goals and objectives (Luthans, and Doh, 2018) It will be easy to
analyse strengths and weaknesses so that measures can be taken to improve the same. Also,
opportunities and threats can be analysed. How different leadership theories are used in critical
situations to take decisions. When change is implemented This report will show how leadership
and strategic management can help a person to become a leader or manager. Moreover, what
factors affect the use of skills and knowledge in leadership and management are discussed.
Besides this, what are the theories of leadership is shown.
TASK 1
1.1 Knowledge and skills in leadership and strategic management
Leadership plays a crucial role in taking strategic decisions (Armstrong, and Taylor,
2014. Their role is to create a roadmap that will help in achieving goals and objectives. Leader
motivate employees to enhance their efficiency by guiding them. Skills required in leadership
are:-
Care about communication – It is key skill required in leadership. Leader should focus on how
communication will be there in organisation. It will describe what have you done and what end
goal is. Also, vision is communicated to employees to perform task accordingly.
Exude confidence- Employees must be encouraged so that goals and objectives are achieved in
less time. It will be beneficial for organisation to focus on other things. This will increase their
overall performance and productivity (Lussier, and Hendon, 2018)
Problem solving- Leader should easily solve problem in strategic management. Also, strategic
thinking will set a path to execute plan. However, it will enhance creativity in performing
activities.

1.2 Contribution that factors other than skills and knowledge in leadership and strategic
management
Other than skills and knowledge, several factors are also concerned in leadership and
strategic management. It helps in understanding vision and strategy so that goals and objectives
can be attained. Leaders and managers must analyse these factors while taking decisions.
Anticipate- This factor is crucial because it helps in anticipating things that are going to occur. It
is required because strategy or decision made is anticipated so that appropriate actions can be
taken in case of emergency (Bratton, and Gold, 2017) Also, it helps in identifying the impact of
strategy on business operations.
Challenge- Leader must be ready to take challenging task so that business can grow. Also, it
helps in solving challenging situation. A vision is always developed by knowing what challenges
it can have. So that alternate strategies can be developed to overcome that.
Interpret- It is easy to interpret what an organisation vision is focused on. It helps in assigning
activities to employees so that they can perform in effective way. By interpreting operations it I
easy to assign tasks to people (Kim, and Mauborgne, 2017).
Decide- Decision making play a crucial role as it shows the positive or negative impact of
decision on specific thing. This will help in future as leader and mange will know what decision
they have to take. Hence, it will help in achieving goals and objectives easily.
1.3 Theories of leadership and management
Leaders follow different theories on the basis of situation. These theories help leaders to
work strategically so that organisation’s overall goals can be achieved in an effective way. There
are several theories available in leadership and management that are as follows:-
Situational leadership theory- This theory is followed according to change in situation.
Leader always focus on how tasks can be attained. Organisation culture environment changes
with change in strategies and goals (Ginter, Duncan, and Swayne, 2018) So leaders motivate
employees and influence them to adopt those changes. Leaders develops strategy according to
needs of business. It is not based on specific skills but varies with time.
Autocratic leadership style- This is usually followed when employees require high
supervision. They like to work under leader’s decision as they think leader is doing the best.
