Introduction
The journal is emphasized on developing a self-development plan by utilizing critical
and analytical thinking. Besides, the self-development plan will further include long-term and
short-term plans.
In addition, this self-development will be based on self-assessment of my professional
needs as well as deficiencies and future career plans. In this context, a self-development plan
is a main constituent of a performance management plan as it effectively guides performance
improvement of an individual. To do so, I will first create a short-term development plan
(around 1-2 years) along with a long-term development plan (around 3-5 years) for myself.

In order to set development objectives for achieving future career development, self-
development plan is an important tool. To do so, my personal development plan is going to

My short term plan or goal is to finish the Master in Healthcare Administration within
18 months. This short-term goal has been set by me for the sake of achieving my long-term
goals in future. My Masters in healthcare administration in this short deadline can only be
accomplished with the help of following steps within personal development plan:
Development needs and objectives
The development objectives to achieve short-term goal are as follows:
Assessing individual as well as community assets, needs and opportunity in healthcare
education
Attending effective health-education administration programs
Volunteering myself while implementing effective health-education administration

Conducting research over healthcare administration
Learning administration as well as management of healthcare administration units
Serving as a Health Care Administrative Person into society
Furthermore, development needs are containing the skills required to complete

Deciding how and when I will learn
To accomplish short-term goal I will gain comprehensive academic experience at my
current university being a career-building residency. I will study all the curriculum
comprising a broad variety of courses as well as opportunities for studying recent economic,
technical social and marketplace issues which are directly impacting the health care sector.
Besides, in order to complete my master’s degree within 18 months I will first strengthen my
basics in the I year of the course while completing research phase-I within healthcare
administration system.
Future action plan for short-term goals
I will focus on research on the topics include epidemiology, biostatistics, clinical
epidemiology, community health, health services management, global health and
planning.
My research for completing master’s degree in 18 months will further contain health
services research, occupational as well as environmental health, health-care policy
and defensive medicine and health care promotion.
I will complete all assignments, modules and tasks of the administration course within
the given deadlines.
I will work within a variety of settings comprising physician practices, hospitals,
ambulatory medical or surgical centres, home care, rehabilitation facilities, long-term
care firms, health consultancies, managed care organizations, public health agencies
and private sector industries.
I will get prepared to work in many other healthcare-related fields so that my future
career options can be expanded.
Long-Term Plan
According to me, a long-term goal is what an individual you wish to accomplish in
the future and that require time as well as concrete planning. Long-term goals are usually
acquired in more than 12 months. In addition, these goals are strongly related to life-long
professional career of a person. In this context, my long-term plan is to take over the manager
position in ICU department of a health institution, then trying to star PhD and moving to the
director position in future.

Reflection on long-term goal
I always wanted to become an expert in whatever area I pursue for my professional
workplace. In this context, the idea of becoming a manager in ICU came into my mind when
visited a well-known hospital of Saudi Arabia in the age of 14 when my grandfather got
admitted into a hospital as well as shifted into ICU for the treatment. At that day, my interests
got developed towards working as an ICU manager while seeing the manager managing
everything efficiently and effectively. Although, I want to work as an ICU manager in a
healthcare institution to serve the society in best possible way yet my goals do not end here as
I want to work at the director position post doing PhD.
Development needs and objectives
Development objectives for becoming the manager in ICU and working as the
director position post getting awesome grades in PhD are as follows:
To manage resources of the hospital or any health care institutions effectively
Offering Patient-Centred Services to the society
Improving Creativity within Problem-Solving
Managing health care workplace diversity effectively
In addition, development needs are the skills required to achieve those development
objectives within the set timelines. In this way, development needs for achieving my long-
term goals are as follows:
True leadership
Relationship building
Quick and effective ethical judgement
Critical Thinking
Adaptability and quick decision-making after evaluating all possible outcomes
Deciding how and when I will learn
In order to take over as a manager in the ICU, I will need to work in a health care
institution for a long time so as to demonstrate my skills and prove myself in front of the
management of the health care institution. Hence, only through learning from real-time
experiences and incidents at workplace I can learn and have above mentioned development
needs as skills required becoming manager in ICU. I will nurture my skill-set through
learning all of these above skills required from getting experience while working in a health

care institution. Later then, to start PhD and getting passed with the good grades will be
possible when I will first get the experience of working as manager within ICU of hospital. In
this way, I can become eligible to work as the director of a health care institution.
Future action plan for long-term goals
From the perspective of acquire coaching skills, I will be improving clinical skills by
using critical observation as well as feedback at workplace.
As we know that multidisciplinary ICU teams require demonstrating protocol
development as well as implementation, safe work environments, and even hospital
mortality hence I will work over my team-building and working skills.
I will study and practice nursing competences for working effectively at ICU include
nursing care management, highly complex nursing care delivery, effective
communication.
I will evolve nursing and health care leadership skills in my personality to become a
health care expert, manager and ultimately the director of a health care institution.
I will work over my key deficiencies like less effective leadership, lack of critical
thinking, over-emotional decision-making and time-taking decision-making habits.
Conclusion
In conclusion, with the help of my personal development plan, I addressed many
important key components in order to evolve action plan. Hence, key components like
development objectives, skills required for the development, timelines for acquisition and
standards as well as measures for accessing improvement have been covered in this paper.
Thus, I successfully developed my own development plan for getting successful in future. In
addition, I also completed an assessment of my professional requirements as well as
deficiencies along with the career plans in order to write the self-development plan.
