1. Introduction
Personal development plan is defined as the structured and systematic process undertaken
by the individual in order to reflect upon their learning, achievement and experience with

the intention for making plans for personal, educational and career development.
Whereas, academic skills are concerned with the strategies and approaches applied to
learning (Roque, Raposo, and Alves, 2021) . These skills are also referred as study skills
or academic skills which are the collection of study habits, learning tactics and time
management tool which assist students in learning and absorbing knowledge from
learning institutes. These skills are essential for learners for acquiring good grades in
schools and also in the future as these skills helps the person in getting employment and
providing overall development through out the entire life. The further report is all about
understanding the concept of personal and professional development along with
discussing the value of short, medium and long term goals with the examples of my
personal goals for future.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
The term professional development, as the name suggests, is concerned with developing one
self entirely in the job role with the aim of getting a deep insight and understanding of the job
the person is doing and ways to improve the performance level (Wimpenny and Orsini-Jones,
2020). Professional development consists of series of activities which is designed for
enhancing the skills required to perform the job role effectively and efficiently as possible
and essential throughout the one's life. Changes are taking place frequently in the business
environment whether it is a economical change, socio-cultural change or legislative changes
or even the technological innovations, thereby in order to remain competent and grow in the
career it is essential to enhance and develop few skill set. With the effective professional
development, knowledge and expertise of an individual related with his career is optimized to
the highest possible level. Professional development includes some of the vocational training
and education so that necessary skills and expertise is acquired. Examples of professional
development are: IT training, legal knowledge and expertise, HR policies etc (Hallsén and
Nordin, 2020).
Whereas personal development is related with acquisition of necessary skills in order
to attain the desired results for both in the job role and life in general. It is concerned with
maximizing the talent and potential both in and out of the workplace. With the help of
through understanding of what the person wants to achieve and the ways to attain them, it is
easier for developing the necessary skills so that desired results can be achieved. For instance,
there are two colleagues working for the same post and same job responsibility for designing
a marketing campaign. They both are creative and possess good communication skills, but
one of them is not good in coordination due to which conflicts arise at workplace. Thereby he
needs a personal training for coordinating with the other departments of the organization to
work effectively. Examples of personal developments are leadership and management
training, time management, and communication skills (Marinov and et. al., 2020).
3. Description and discussion of the value of short term goals

Short term goals can be defined as the goals that leads the person towards their final
destination as these goals act as a stepping stone towards the long term goals. These goals are
achievable within a short span of time, say within a week or coupe of months (Han and Tong,
2021). Short term goals helps in avoiding procrastination and keeps the person focused
