2.2 Assessment for the skills

Objective 1: Effective communication skills

Non Government Organizations work not only in a single place but they are wide spread. The

members need to communicate effectively in order to achieve the charitable objectives of the

organization. Without proper communication, the employees are neither able to understand

each other nor they are able to conduct their work in a proper manner. In this organization,

Macmillan formative exercise is an initiative in which the four people need to communicate

with the clients and effectively convince them to be able to click their pictures and collect

money from them. The members need to make the people understand about the noble cause

for which they are donating money
(Austin and Pinkleton, 2015).
Objective 2:
Team player
In case of any organization, the employees have to work in teams to achieve the goals of the

organization. The members of the teams have equal rights and can place their individual

decisions. In this case, four members work collectively in order to raise money to meet the

charitable cause of the NGO. Thus, the employees should cooperate with each other and work

collectively to achieve the goals effectively (
Whiting and Maynes, 2016).
Objective 3:
Organizational skill
The employees need to be natural organiser, that is, they should be able to work in an

organized manner. Sometimes some situations arise in which there is intense work pressure

as the task is complex or the assigned time for completion of the task is less, at these hard

situations the employees need to make sure that they complete that work with full efficiently

and potential for the successful completion (
Goetsch and Davis, 2014).
Objective 4:
Flexibility

Flexibility is an essential requirement for the employees in any organization. The employees
must be flexible regarding the work assigned to them. Sometimes some situations arise that

the employees have to complete some tasks, which are out of their field or they have to work

beyond their office hours during pressure situations. These situations demand flexibility.

Another situation frequently seen within NGOs is that, the employees may have to travel to

remote areas where not everything is available; they still have to work being dedicated

(
Christensen and Schneider, 2015).
Objective 5:
Maintaining Routines
Making routines and maintaining it is a good habit of every person, as it helps the person to

complete his or her job systematically. Thus, in the NGO there are diffident types of tasks,

which require systematic working, thus it is beneficial for the employees to maintain routines

for their individual benefit
(Anjomshoa et al., 2017).
Objective 6:
Language
Non Governmental Organizations do not operate in a single place, the employees need to

travel to various place around the globe. It is thus important for them to learn the language of

the country or place to which they are travelling. This will help them achieve effective

communication with the locals or the people whom they want to work with. Otherwise, they

need to employ an extra person who will be the translator, but not everyone can be trusted so

it is better for the employee itself to learn the foreign language.

Objective 7:
Research and data Gathering
The employees need to conduct detailed research of the task assigned to them so that they are

able to find out and present maximum details of the task. If detailed research is not conducted

then there will be some gaps and task will not be efficiently completed.

Objective 8:
Problem-solving ability
Many problem situations arise within an organization; these problems need to be properly

assessed and solved on time. The employees should not panic in such problem situations and

calmly assess the problem to find out the best and relevant solution. The problems need to

solved on time to avoid complex situations. It is the case for NGOs as well
(Marsick and
Watkins, 2015
).

Reflections:
Macmillan formative exercise initiative, which was a group activity to raise fund by clicking

instant photographs for
Macmillan Cancer Research in Greater London, for helping the
people and identifying the number of people who are affected by cancer to help in their better

care and services provided to them. I developed a plan for the personal and professional

development however; there remained some gaps in the plan. From the analysis conducted

and the following were developed:

Description: I participated in the Macmillan formative exercise initiative with four of
my colleagues and generated some money for a noble cause of serving cancer

patients. This was a great initiative on the part of the NGO. We chose our teams and

signed it and submitted that to our tutors on 14
th Feb 2014.
Feelings: I felt great doing this activity and being part of the initiative as it is for a
noble cause.

Evaluation: The very good thing about this initiate was that it was serving cancer
patients but the bad thing was that it was a time consuming task to call people,

convince them for clicking instant pictures and handing it to them for some amount of

money. The overall task was time consuming the money was not enough.

Analysis: The overall situation of serving so many people was very good and very
effective measure on the part of the NGO.

Conclusion: Apart from clicking instant pictures other measures could have been
adopted like selling daily need products at a lower cost could be a more effective

measure according to me.

Action plan: Overall, if this plan arose again, I would love to be a part of it and
surely participate in such activities.

Conclusion:
The assignment above deals with the personal development plan that I have prepared after

participating in the Macmillan formative exercise, in which I and four of my colleagues

clicked instant pictures and raised money though that. This plan helps me to find out and

focus on the skills that i require for my overall development. This task helps me to improve

my personal as well as professional skills. I had a problem in public speaking and usually

stammered if I was given a chance to speak in front of a crowd. This plan helps me to identify

that and effectively correct that which helped me in my personal as well as professional life.
