INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development may be defined as the way which assist the
individuals in identifying their own skills as well as knowledge and also helps them in dealing
with the everyday life situations in proper manner (Chaykina and et. al., 2021). With an effective
personal and professional development, the individuals are able to considered their aim in life
and attain the set objectives with full potential. The following report is going to discuss about the
concept of personal and professional development along with the value of short-term, medium-
term and long term with proper examples. In addition to this, this report also paid focus on the
value of the personal development plan with proper PDP plan example.

Define the concept of personal and professional development.
Personal and professional development may be defied as a process within which individuals and
business organisation works together in order to attain all the objectives for learning new skills.
Professional development is basically a process in which individual effectively identify the goals
and learn the nee things which helps them in attaining a successful position in their life. This
comprises the development of necessary skills within an individual so that they can carry out
their own role in the best possible manner. Some of the example of professional development
skills are IT skills, accountancy and budgeting, legal knowledge and many more. The
professional development is basically a vocational education or training that leads an individual
career. On the other hand, personal development may be defined as the process that comprises of
various activities of self-improvement (O’Leary and Sheedy, 2021). These activities assist the
individuals in developing their personal abilities as well as potential which result in enhancing
their quality of life. Personal development is basically a continuous process which may take
place during the entire individual lifespan. Some examples of the personal development skills are
communication skills, decision making skills, time management skills and many more.
Personal and professional development is very important for the individuals, when they
work in a big company or engage in any professional activity. At some point, each and every
individual get the benefit of personal and professional development in their life unless ad until
they are obligated in some way. The planning behind the personal and professional development
must have to be regularly reviewed by the individual through 360 degree feedback. This not only

A short-term goal may be defined as those goals which an individual want to attain in their near
future. The near future means that a week, month or year. A short term goal is basically those
goals which an individual want to achieve soon. These goals are valuable and plays a very
important role in an individual life. These goals clearly define the path of success and helps the
individuals in paying focus on single thing at a time. This focus motivates the individuals in
proper manner on regular basis and enhance their productivity so that carrying out the task in
productive manner. The importance of short term goals has been discussed below: -
Improved focus: - the short term goals assist the individuals in paying focus on a
particular path which are set in order to achieve the long term goals (Forrester and
Isenstein, 2021). If an individual has the shorter actions plan, then they don’t get easily
distracted on the progressing of goal.
Provide clarity of the overall plan: - the shorter targets help the individual in
understanding the entire project and maintain a consistency. The shorter goals are more
manageable and gaps or issues can be fulfilled efficiently and effectively.

Established confidence: -Long term goals prepare the individuals for future worries and
allows them to paid focus on their energy in completing the objectives. So, the regular
focus of individual on long term objectives results in developing confidence within them.
