INTRODUCTION
Personal development refers to the lifelong process as it is the way where people assess
their own skills, qualities, and sets their own goals in order to maximize and realize their
potential. It is all related with individual gaining new skills and experiences to support their own
development and growth aspect. This report will brief on how personal and professional
development play a vital role in the lives of individual. It will also address to importance of short
term, medium term and long term goals of individual and will brief on how personal &
professional development differs from each other and what are there advantages.
MAIN BODY
Concept of Personal and Professional Development
Professional development is the process of increasing the capabilities of employees by
providing training, education and various other opportunities in the workplace and can also be
through watching others on how they perform their jobs. It helps in building and maintain moral
of its employees which help the company to attract higher quality of employees.
Personal development refers to enhancing employment skills, increasing consciousness
and building wealth for self which help individuals to demonstrate dedication and the ability to
learn and grow
According to Ramia (2016), personal and professional development helps in managing
the learning of individuals and growth throughout in there career. It helps in developing skills
and knowledge which are up to date and ensures individual to work with safety, legality and
effectively.
It is also called as continuous professional development which include activities taking
up of various courses and workshops, computer based learning, on the job training and various
others. Benefit of personal and professional development is that it help an individual to learn new
things which helps individuals with different viewpoints, beliefs and values. It refers to
improving the relationship with own and with others too where one learns how to network,
connect and interact with others.

that come up in their ways. It is related with the development needs of individual as well as team
Short term goals and its importance
Short term goals refers to goals on wishes to accomplish in near future which can be in
term when individual meet the same in a day, week or month or a year. Short term goals are the
little steps taken by individuals which helps in reaching individual towards its long term goal.
These are the goals which is accomplished soon by an individual.
As stated by the Gustafsson( 2019), short term goals helps individual to think of what
can be done right away which also helps an individual to manage its time accordingly. It can be
seemed as small, but completing the same can lead to big accomplishment in one owns lives and
career.
These are the goals which are more feasible to achieve for individual for which the mind
also remains motivated. More the individual sets short term more is the motivation derived to go
to next steps, Contradicting to the above Lang (2020), points that what motivates an individual is
leaving out of the comfort zone and taking risks where short term goals do not require taking
risks hence it can not lead to motivate enough of people. In the addition to the same Lang (2020)
stated that it can be short term goals can be easily achieved which will not lead to great
incentives at the end.
Short term goals of the company are important as it lays down the clear& defined path of
success for an individual which defines to focus on one thing at a given point of time. This focus
in turn helps in motivating and increasing the productivity of individual and helps to achieve and
have a track for long term goals. These are important as it helps as its helps as milestones to
reach to long term goals of individual. It helps in providing a solution for the problem which can
be break-en in series of steps to achieve long term goals which leads individual to be motivated
and focused in what is being done (Ogawa, 2016).
Some short term goals of my life is that, to be early by 10 minutes every day at my
workplace, improve upon my communication level, spend less time on my mobile phone.

Medium term goals and its importance
According to the Hirashiki(2019), Medium term goals are the goals which bridges the
gap between the daily activities and long term vision of individual.
It is based on SMART way of achieving the goals that is the medium term goals should
be specific of what an individual want specifically, measurable to extend of what is required,
achievable by individuals, to be realistic in nature and in a defined time zone which can in
between 1 year to 5 year. However, in certain cases medium term goals cannot be specific due to
the interval between medium term goal and long term goal which can create state of confusion
and unclear focus leading to the changes in short term goals. These goals are related to the values
of individuals which explain certain things about individuals and get to know why it is really
important to achieve or accomplish. It helps in defining how an individual needs to work and
what needs to be worked depending upon their own skills and abilities to accomplish the same. It
can be achieved with certain aspects that individual possess which helps individual to perform
more effectively and efficiently. This can also be termed as intermediate goals as it give the
boost to individuals which helps in building confidence and skills that are required to achieve
bigger dreams of oneself. The beauty of medium term goals is it results individual taking control
where choices and decisions are derived by the individual own towards how to accomplish the
goal. These are the action plan to achieve long term goals set by an individual
Medium term and intermediate goals are important as unlike short term goals it gives
enough time to actually make significant progress and unlike long term goals it does not take
long time to achieve desired targets which changes individual with completely different values
and priorities as when compared to the goals being set down which serves as the best type of
goals individuals sets for themselves in the course of their lifespan. These are important and
valuable as it provides it helps in alignment with long term goals which helps in getting the track
with the same. Each time when one accomplishes steps towards mid term goals it helps to get
closer towards their own long term goals
Some medium term goals of my life are to repay my educational loan which I have taken
for my MBA, buy a house after three year and make my career field of sales
Long term goals and there importance
Long term goals refers to goals which are hard to achieve for which the time taken is also
big which usually takes time of more than 5 years to achieve the goals. These goals require

proper planning before executing the same as they are too complicated in the nature to achieve. It
refers to accomplishments that require significant efforts, planning and time to achieve the same.
Fite(2017), stated these are not the things which can be done in a month or in a year. It
usually takes several years to achieve targets. These are the big dreams that give direction &
purpose to one life. It requires daily planning in order to reach them which includes multiple
steps involving completion of other smaller goals which comes in the way. Achievement of long
term goals depends on how well individuals know themselves and how well they determine the
mission and vision of achieving the long term goals. These are the goals which are supported by
short term and mid term goals. They are the positive outcomes of individuals efforts which are in
terms of many months and even years. It refers to the goals which helps in providing directions
to individual to achieve there dreams. These goals are viewed from distance because these goals
are the goals which require huge amount of time to get accomplish (Rogelj, 2019).
Long term goals are important as these goals helps in making decision more easily and
help in deciding whether something is worth doing or not. It will make the life of an individual
more exciting as it develops sense of understanding in individual that what they do is great and it
also helps in understanding what are strengths which individual possess and what are the
weaknesses which needs to be focused around to achieve the goals more effectively. These are
important for successful career of individual where it provides clear vision and understanding of
what needs to be done and how it needs to be done which helps in utilization of time of
individual and there resources in most productive way . These goals are the biggest motivator for
the self improvement and lays down foundation for individual objectives which is being desired
to achieve in near future. Long term goals helps in evaluating values of individual and help in
knowing the level of commitment and dedication one possess towards the achievement of the
same. It also helps individual with getting more purpose and drive towards what needs to being
achieved (Langhammer, 2017).
Some long term goals of my life are to become a key managerial personnel of renowned
company, become a mentor in my respective field, save money which will help me after my
retirement.
Personal Development Plan(PDP) and its importance
Personal development plan refers to the action plan which is based upon individual
values, awareness, reflection, planning and goal setting for the growth and development which is

in context of individual education, career, self improvement and relationship. It is also known as
individual development plan which includes aspirations, desires, competencies, education and
training on how the goals need to be achieved. It is essential for career development and skill
building as it provides with proper directions to accomplish goals. PDP/IDP refers to the
operations of setting goals in given period and to achieve goals. It should not be exercised
rigorously and strictly which may result in loosing other opportunities which come in the way to
success which means it should be flexible according to changing situations.
PDP is important as it provides individual to identify strengths and weakness and help in
working and capitalizing with the existing skills and capabilities. It provides with clear vision of
future which gives clear idea of where & how an individual will be in near future.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is understood that how short term, medium term and long term
goals helps in providing an individual with clear direction and purpose of what they need to do
and how they need to do. It is understood that continuous learning of new skills and capabilities
helps an individual to contribute towards the path of their career success. These goals help in
motivation of individual and helps in determining there strength & weakness and how potentially
one can utilize the same to achieve there desired targets. It also briefed on how action plan of
individual contributes towards personal and professional development which helps in
accomplishing goals of individual.
