This report discusses personal and professional development goals, their value, and how to construct a personal development plan. It also explains how author, purpose, reliability, and relevance affect the use of sources. Additionally, it evaluates eight sources used in the report plan. Task One:
Definition of the concept of personal and professional development
Personal and professional development (PDP) is defined as the way to assess and
evaluate own abilities and skills in relation to future aims so that necessary improvement
needs can be identified and development goals can be made for improving them (Bintani,
2020).
Description and discussion of the value of short term goals
identifying at least 3 personal examples
Short term goals are defined as the short duration goals which are or which can be
accomplished within a year or in a duration of less than one year (Varlejs, 2017). Short term
goals are very important because they help to enhance creativity and to implement quick and
effective strategies for enhancing performance. As compare to other types of goals short term
goals are very quick and effective in terms of providing feedback so that individuals can
develop and groom. Since short term goals are specific, clear and small they also assist in
killing procrastination (Özer, Can and Duran, 2020). For example, my short term goals are:
1. I will get a professional certification course of information technology in 6 months.
2. I will participate in networking events so that communication skills are improved in 3
months.
3. I will try to make better work schedules for next 4 months so that with effective time
management I can complete my tasks on time

Medium term goals are known as the goals which may take longer than one year and ends
up accomplishment in between two to five years. These are considered as more progressive
goals which not only develops professionally but helps to check and keep track of our
professional towards are long term goals (Lacsamana, Portugal and Delos Reyes, 2018). The
evaluation and accomplishment of these goals evaluate that if our existing professional
approaches needs any improvement or they are well implemented. Examples of medium term
goals are:

1. To achieve more A grade in my degree program
2. To go for a foreign trip within next 3 years.
3. To enhance my decision making skills in next 4 years by actively engaging in various
social projects.

Contrary to the other types of goals long term goals are known as the goals which aims at
achievement of prolong professional goals and may take up to ten years (Rimmer, 2018).
These goals require long planning and efforts and they are important because they add value
to life and thus quality of life may affect by accomplishment of these goals. These goals not
only help in professional development but are also vital to form personality and affect life
styles (Ragan, 2018) My long term goals are:
1. To become chief executive officer in a well-known tech organisation in next 8 years.
2. To get a graduate level degree from Harvard in next 6 years.
3. To make a huge investment of at least one million in next 10 years.
Description and discussion of the value of a Personal Development
Plan and construction of an example using my goals
Personal development plan is very crucial tool to identify and evaluate own skills and
to adopt necessary strategies to improve them so that various professional goals can be
achieved (Rubens and et.al., 2018). Without PDP one may not be able to identity strategies
for achieving its professional goals. An example of PDP is as follows:

and Relevance’ affect the use of a source
Author: The knowledge and authority of the publishing author or institute affects the
credibility, accuracy and validity of the source. Thus if scholars can use any particular source
or not depends upon author.
Purpose: The purpose of any source describes the way in which data is collected and findings
are analysed (Körkkö and et.al., 2020). Thus individuals must check that if purpose of source
meet with their requirement or not because it can affect the validity and acceptance of source
content.
Reliability: The reliability of article is important as it directly affect the precision and
accuracy of content and its suitability to the real life application. Thus only reliable sources
must be used.
Relevance: This is one of the most important aspect as content must be relevant to the time
frame or contemporary aspects so as to make it accurate and suitable for use.
