This report plan for BMP3001 Academic Skills and PDP Assessment 1 discusses personal and professional development goals and evaluation of sources. It covers the definition and value of short term, medium term, and long term goals, and the importance of a personal development plan. The report also evaluates eight sources used in the plan.

Task One:
Definition of the concept of personal and professional development
Personal development is being considered as a life long process which help
an individual in achieving all the goals and objectives with the help of its potential.
This comprises of different activities which help an individual in developing its
personal capabilities, potential, build human capital, improve quality of life,
realization of dreams and many more. This allowed an individual to always be
proactive and taking charge of their own actions. In an every individual life personal
development plays a very significant role. Professional development is totally
concerned with learning which help an individual to earn and maintained its
professional credentials in academic as well as working life. When an individual
focus on their goals and objective or focus on achieving successful position in its life
at that time professional development plays an important role(Goriaand et. al.,
2019). There are different types of methods and approaches which are totally related
to the professional development like consultation, mentoring, lesson study, coaching
and technique assistance. The importance of personal as well as professional
development has been discussed below :-
Personal development
 Personal development not only help an individual in providing clarity in setting
its personal vision but also help in evolving existing knowledge and skills.
 Helps an individual in defining personal goals and objectives in more clear
way.
 Helps in developing new skills and knowledge with in them in a very effective
manner.
 Helps in facing different challenges which is related to education, guidance
and training and also assist an individual in identifying true potential.
Professional development
 Professional development helps an individual in getting good job which helps
them in achieving success position in life.
 This not only helps in achieving all the personal goals but also help in
achieving organizational goals and objectives.
 Also help in developing more and more opportunities which helps them in
achieving growth and success(Makovec, 2018).

The short term goals is being considered as those goals which an individual
wants to achieve as soon as possible. With the help of these goals an individual can
make the big changes. Short term goals may be defined as those goals which an
individual wants to achieve in the near future. The near future means today, weak,
month or even a year. If an individual wants to achieve the long term goals then it is
very important fore them to paid focus on the short term goals. As these short term
goals and objective plays a very important role in a carrying out and achieving long
term objectives. Basically these goals are made to attain the short term
achievements, which is very beneficial for an individual to always remain motivated
and plan for the future goals(Schoenmaker and Schramade,2019). It is very

important for an individual to set the short term goals this not only build self
confidence with in them but also make them habitual to always work with developed
plan which provide a systematic base to them(Brieger and De Clercq, 2019). . These
goals develop clear path for an individuals which allow them to focus on one thing at
a time. Along with this the productivity of an individual for achieving the long term
goals has also been increases. Following are the examples of the short terms which
have been discussed below :-
My short term goals are
 For being a well organized person I want to evolve my time management skill
by preparing an effective time table and to do list.
 I want to improve my communication skill by reading at-least in a day.
 I want to develop effective writing skill by writing at least two pages in a day.
 Start saving money, so that I can face any financial problem in future.
 To loose weight or to remain fit I start walking every morning.

Medium term goals may be defined as those goals which are lasting for a
period of time that means that neither too long nor too short. These goals came
between the short term and long term as these goals are bigger then short term and
shorter then long term(Morioka, Bolis and de Carvalho, 2018). These goals has to be
achieved in between 3-4 years. Individuals have lot of time to focus on their weak
areas and improvise their skills and knowledge. With the help of these goals a
person can achieve in their career and effectively focus on their objectives. It has
been seen that in achieving the short terms goals, individual do not have the time to
make a significant progress and in long term it take so much time. So to achieve a
significant progress mid term goals plays a very important role(Martínand et. al.,
2020). The mid term goals offers benefits of both the goals. If an individual are not
properly dictated or attentive towards the achievements then these goals are not
much effective. Following are the examples of the medium term goals which have
been discussed below :-
My medium term goals are
 I want to become an effective leader in a well reputed company.
 I want to enhance my IT skills and also get familiar with digital technology.
 I want to develop business skill and for this I have to achieve good grades and
complete my business management course.
 I want to enhance my communication skill and to speak at a public place.

Long term may be defined as those goals which an individual want to
accomplished in future. In order to achieve the long term goals an significant amount

of time, efforts and planning has been necessary. These goals could be continue
until the life of an individual(Kasych and Vochozka, 2019). To think about the long
term goals is very easy but to achieve them in real life is very hard. These goals and
objectives is being considered as the final result of individual hard work. If an
individual want to achieve long term goals the they have to become passionate as
well as serious about their life. The long term goals are those goals which take
longer time to achieve. It takes about 10- 20 years to complete it. With the help of
these goals an individual can effectively focus on their career as these goals provide
direction to their career and lives(Hattori and et. al., 2021). These goals provides
reason to an individual, to constantly work towards their achievements. Following are
some of the example of the long term goals which have been discussed below :-
My long term goals are
 I want to become an successful businessman.
 I want to buy a big bungalow of my money.
 Develop different types of business practices which id unique in nature.

Personal development plan is being considered as an important part of an
individual life. This plan provide a significant way to an individual to improve its skills
and knowledge. Basically personal development plan is a kind of documentation
which assist an individual in addressing all their weak areas in a very specific
manner.
